{"id":849155,"date":"2026-04-02T12:06:02","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T12:06:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/849155\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T12:06:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T12:06:02","slug":"second-round-receiver-for-packers-in-latest-nfl-mock-drafts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/849155\/","title":{"rendered":"Second-Round Receiver for Packers in Latest NFL Mock Drafts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">Before there was Matthew Golden in the first round, the Green Bay Packers had a long and strong history of drafting receivers in the second round.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">From Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson to Randall Cobb and Davante Adams to, finally, Christian Watson and Jayden Reed, Green Bay\u2019s made a killing with its second-round receivers.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6p\">It was back to the second-round well in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedraftnetwork.com\/2026\/03\/30\/2026-nfl-mock-draft-mar-30\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Keith Sanchez\u2019s mock draft for The Draft Network<\/a> as he selected Oklahoma receiver Deion Burks.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6s\">\u201cBurks has electric speed and is a good route runner, providing the Packers with a dynamic player on the offensive side that they can find creative ways to get the football to and make plays,\u201d Sanchez wrote.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6v\">Entering this year\u2019s, receiver ranks toward the bottom of the team\u2019s list of immediate needs. However, it could be a major long-term need. After the upcoming season, Watson, Reed, Dontayvion Wicks and Skyy Moore are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6y\">While general manager Brian Gutekunst could re-sign one or more of those players, the fact remains that only Golden and Savion Williams, who didn\u2019t make much of an impact as a rookie, are under contract for 2027.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"71\">With that, it would not be a surprise if Gutekunst went with a receiver early, even with more pressing immediate needs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"74\">The Packers, Sanchez noted, \u201clike speed and vertical field stretchers at the receiver position. And they lost one of their main pieces when Romeo Doubs headed to New England in free agency. The Packers know they need to fill that void.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"77\">The problem is Burks is too small for Green Bay\u2019s historic preferences at 5-foot-9 3\/4 and 180 pounds. So, that Burks ran an electric 4.30 in the 40-yard dash will be irrelevant.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The Athletic: Cornerback<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7d\">Speaking of prospects who probably don\u2019t fit,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7151713\/2026\/04\/01\/nfl-mock-draft-intel-coaches-scouts-agents-2026\/?source=dailyemail&amp;campaign=601983&amp;userId=12903833&amp;source=dailyemail\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> The Athletic\u2019s Bruce Feldman<\/a> selected Miami cornerback Deionte Scott.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7g\">After three so-so seasons at Auburn, Scott had a superb final season for the Hurricanes. He had two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed zero touchdowns and only 8.5 yards per reception. He was a big-time weapon from the slot with five sacks and 13 tackles for losses.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7j\">So, what doesn\u2019t fit? At 5-foot-10 5\/8, he doesn\u2019t have the desired success to hold up as a perimeter cornerback, which is what the Packers need. In fact, in 2025, he played only six snaps on the perimeter.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7m\">\u201cScott is a dynamic nickelback. He\u2019s an excellent force player, blitzer and energy provider,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/daniel-jeremiah-s-top-50-2026-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-3-0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> wrote NFL Network\u2019s Daniel Jeremiah<\/a>, who has Scott as his No. 47 prospect. \u201cHe\u2019s an older prospect (24 years old) but he\u2019s ready to contribute immediately and will provide an explosive element to his drafting team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7p\">Regardless, Feldman\u2019s mock is one of the best of the year as it includes a bunch of quotes from college coaches who went against the top prospects.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7s\">Here\u2019s what one coach said of Scott: \u201cHell of a player. His tape at Auburn wasn\u2019t great or amazing. But his tape at Miami, whoa. He\u2019s very twitchy and smart. You could tell he does his homework and he plays with such an edge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On SI: Defensive Tackle<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-18\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7y\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/draft\/onsi\/mock-drafts\/2026-nfl-mock-draft-flipping-everything-upside-down\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In his latest for On SI<\/a>, Justin Melo went with Ohio State All-American defensive tackle Kayden McDonald, who would \u201cbe an absolute steal\u201d at No. 52.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-19\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"81\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/packers\/onsi\/packers-get-absolute-steal-in-new-nfl-mock-draft\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Here\u2019s a closer look at the \u201cgame-wrecker.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>CBS Sports: Three Rounds<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-21\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"87\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/draft\/news\/nfl-three-round-mock-draft-2026-steelers-ty-simpson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In three-round mock draft at CBS Sports.com<\/a>, Ryan Wilson selected San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson and Michigan defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-22\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8a\">Johnson had four interceptions, including two pick-sixes, in 2025. Contrast that to Green Bay\u2019s cornerbacks, who had one interception in the regular season.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-23\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8d\">According to PFF, Johnson allowed 18 completions in 43 targets (41.9 percent) with zero touchdowns allowed and a passer rating of just 16.1. He finished with 13 passes defensed.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-24\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8g\">Johnson at the Scouting Combine measured 6-foot 1\/4 and 193 pounds. With 4.40 speed,<a href=\"https:\/\/ras.football\/ras-information\/?PlayerID=30140&amp;ovl=San+Diego+State\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> his Relative Athletic Score was 9.83<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-25\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8j\">\u201cThe one thing going into it that I kept hearing,\u201d Aztecs<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2026\/02\/27\/aztecs-football-notebook-chris-johnson-improves-stock-with-nfl-combine-performance\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> coach Sean Lewis told The San Diego Union Tribune<\/a>, \u201cwas like, \u2018Hey, does he have the long speed? Does he have the top-end speed?\u2019 And for him to run an official 4.4 flat. Obviously, that obliterates all those concerns. And the tape speaks to everything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-26\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8m\">Johnson is the No. 38 prospect,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7009839\/2026\/02\/10\/nfl-draft-2026-rankings-prospects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> according to The Athletic\u2019s Dane Brugler<\/a>, and the No. 42 prospect in the draft, according to Jeremiah.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-27\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8p\">\u201cThey have been telling me I&#8217;m a great player and a great person, man,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbs8.com\/article\/sports\/ncaa\/aztecs\/san-diego-state-cornerback-chris-johnson-impressing-nfl-scouts\/509-46b1564d-f671-4289-a480-8b6328a650cc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Johnson said after the school\u2019s pro day last month<\/a>. \u201cThat&#8217;s the stuff I want to hear and the stuff I have shaped and molded myself to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-28\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8s\">Benny isn\u2019t the big, space-eating defensive tackle in the mold of McDonald. He\u2019s 6-foot-3 1\/4 and 298 pounds with 33 3\/8-inch arms.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-29\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8v\">Benny played in 54 games over five seasons. With Mason Graham off to the NFL, Benny was a starter for the first time in 2025, when he was third-team all-conference with 1.5 sacks and three tackles for losses among 35 tackles.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-30\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8y\">\u201cI\u2019m a lanky defensive lineman who plays with good length,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/draft\/onsi\/player-profiles\/rayshaun-benny-nfl-draft-interview-don-t-sleep-on-michigan-dt-s-dominance\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> he told On SI\u2019s Justin Melo<\/a>. \u201cI create extension and get off blocks. I can push the pocket. I have some juice in the passing game. I\u2019m a good run defender. I\u2019m an all-around defensive tackle.
