Nothing is off the table for general manager Dan Morgan at No. 19 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft<\/a>. The Carolina Panthers set themselves up nicely with a statement-making free agency period<\/a>. Now, it’s a case of fine-tuning the squad to ensure they are ready to defend their NFC South championship.<\/p>\n

Much of the focus centered on defensive reinforcements in free agency. Acquiring edge rusher Jaelan Phillips<\/a> and linebacker Devin Lloyd got the league’s attention. However, the Panthers need to provide quarterback Bryce Young with more firepower in a critical fourth season with exceptionally high stakes attached.<\/p>\n

According to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, that may include drafting a wide receiver in the first round for the third consecutive year. And there is one prospect, in particular, that the team insider will be watching closely.<\/p>\n

Carolina Panthers insider highlights WR KC Concepcion as a prospect to watch<\/p>\n

Kaye, citing conversations with sources, got the impression that Carolina was not ruling out taking a wideout early once again<\/a>. He also thought betting on the upside of KC Concepcion is something Morgan might consider when it’s time to turn in his card.<\/p>\n

“KC Concepcion, I would keep a pretty close eye on him. He’s a guy who they can use in the slot and the Z position. He’s a guy who can push [Jalen] Coker to the Z position. And I think they are the type of team with a former wide receivers coach as a head coach, a former wide receivers coach as an offensive coordinator, and a former wide receiver who is now a wide receivers coach.<\/p>\n

“I think Dan Morgan likes betting on the developmental skills of those three, and I think it all worked out with T-Mac. In my conversations, I do think they are very much open to drafting a wide receiver early.”<\/p>\n

Concepcion is a fast-rising prospect whose skill set looks well-suited to Carolina’s scheme. As Kay stated, his versatility is a major asset. He’s an explosive route runner and a dangerous threat after the catch. Transferring to the SEC with Texas A&M was a shrewd decision, and his outstanding production<\/a> amid increased competition makes him a strong first-round candidate.<\/p>\n

The prospect is no stranger to the region, having played the first two seasons of his college career at North Carolina State. Conception isn’t the most physically imposing wideout, but his ruthless aggression and notable athleticism make him a difficult proposition to overcome when early momentum is generated.<\/p>\n

There is an issue with drops, and Concepcion needs to manipulate his speed a little better to succeed in the pros. Once these problems are addressed, someone will have a valuable contributor on their hands. And if the Panthers go in this direction, it’ll round off their receiver room nicely.<\/p>\n

What this would mean for Xavier Legette’s role is anyone’s guess<\/a>. However, the Panthers are not going to let sentiment get in the way, especially after making their long-awaited return to the postseason in 2025.<\/p>\n

Now is the time to be bold.
