JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a> have a number of players coming off big seasons who are worth getting excited about. But the one player who may be one of the most important is someone who didn’t play a single snap in 2025. <\/p>\n

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen<\/a> spoke from the annual league meetings in Phoenix this week, and he provided an update — and reason for excitement — on second-year safety Caleb Ransaw as he prepares<\/a> for his NFL debut.<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRansaw’s 2026<\/p>\n

Ransaw notably missed his entire rookie season due to a foot injury in training camp that would require surgery. The No. 88 pick in last year’s draft<\/a> and the second player the new Jaguars regime drafted after only Travis Hunter<\/a>, there were big hopes for Ransaw before his injury. Hopes that clearly have not been dashed inside the Miller Electric Center as the Jaguars prepare for 2026. <\/p>\n

\u201cVery much a fan of Caleb when we drafted him. My relationship with [Florida Head Coach] Jon Sumrall<\/a> was a huge part of that obviously and how much he liked Caleb,” Coen said this week. <\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

“He’s been working out a ton with strength conditioning, with athletic training and I haven’t been able to see him but they say he looks good, he’s running around pain free and really moving around well, he’s gotten stronger.” <\/p>\n

Getting Ransaw into the fold would be massive for the Jaguars as long as he hits, and the Jaguars’ confidence in him and his skill-set and versatilty has not wavered despite his lack of a rookie season. Ransaw was drafted just as much for his competitive fire and work-ethic as he was his talent, and that has helped give him a runway of oppurtunity after a quasi-redshirt season. <\/p>\n

Ransaw, of course, will be joining a depth chart at safety that had several players impress last season. Eric Murray<\/a> became a solid veteran and leader at the position, Antonio Johnson took a big leap, and Rayuan Lane flashed. Now, the Jaguars are adding an exciting and versatile talent like Ransaw back into the mix, a scenario Coen seems more than pleased with. <\/p>\n

“Sp look, it’s a nice thing where you’ve got [S] Antonio Johnson who ascended towards the end of season. [S] Eric Murray coming back, [DB] Rayuan Lane [III] another year and then you’re like, well, shoot Caleb who knows what that could look like. We’re just excited to see what it could be.” <\/p>\n
