The Carolina Panthers worked with Samaritan’s Feet on Friday. Together, they gave sneakers to kids at David Cox Elementary School in northeast Charlotte. Every kid got new shoes.<\/p>\n

The goal is to get kids moving for at least 60 minutes each day. Officials want children building habits that keep them active and healthy. The David and Nicole Tepper Foundation paid for the shoes.<\/p>\n

Running back Jonathan Brooks showed up to meet students. He plays for the Panthers and took time to chat with the kids about their new footwear.<\/p>\n

“Any type of way that you can give back to the community is always a good opportunity,” Brooks said to WCCB Charlotte<\/a>. “As a kid, to get free shoes, to get an opportunity to meet NFL players, it’s always a great opportunity and it’s pretty awesome.”<\/p>\n

David Cox Elementary sits in Charlotte’s northeast section. Kids lined up to receive their shoes and shake hands with professional football players that afternoon.<\/p>\n

David Tepper owns the Panthers. His foundation, which he runs with his wife Nicole, funded the entire donation. The couple has supported youth programs across Charlotte since purchasing the team.<\/p>\n

Samaritan’s Feet specializes in getting shoes to children who need them. The group has worked with the Panthers before on similar giveaways.<\/p>\n

Why sneakers? Doctors say kids need an hour of movement daily. New shoes make running, jumping, and playing easier. That’s what this program pushes \u2014 getting children off couches and onto playgrounds.<\/p>\n

Brooks said helping others means something to him. Several teammates joined him at the school that day.<\/p>\n

David Cox Elementary belongs to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system. You’ll find it on the northeast side of town, where hundreds of students attend classes each year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Carolina Panthers worked with Samaritan’s Feet on Friday.
