Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is getting attention for what he said after joining the Las Vegas Raiders.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s official: On Thursday, April 2, former Minnesota Vikings<\/a> quarterback Kirk Cousins<\/a> agreed to a\u00a0contract<\/a> with the Las Vegas Raiders<\/a>, bringing his decade-plus years of experience<\/a> to the franchise. Terms of the deal have yet to be released.<\/p>\n Thursday morning, Cousins\u2019 agent, Mike McCartney, made the news official in a post on X<\/a>. He congratulated him on signing to the franchise. While the terms of the team have yet to come out, Cousins\u2019 deal likely won\u2019t be as big as its last, but it will still be good. The player\u2019s last contract was a four-year, $180 million contract<\/a> with the Atlanta Falcons<\/a> that he signed in 2024 with $100 million guaranteed and a $45 million average annual value, according to research from Spotrac<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cCousins, 37, will join a Raiders team that is widely expected to select quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL<\/a> draft later this month,\u201d ESPN stated in a Thursday, April 2 report on the signing<\/a>. \u201cThe four-time Pro Bowler also will reunite with first-year Raiders coach Klint Kubiak, who worked with Cousins for three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.\u201d<\/p>\n Cousins completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,721 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions during the 2025-26, according to NFL research<\/a>.<\/p>\n Former Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Kirk Cousins Announces New Home in Viral Post<\/p>\n Cousins also announced the news, and he did it in a dramatic, three-word post on X. That, of course, refers to the famed poem and musical anthem of the Las Vegas Raiders, bringing that pirate energy. It displays the Raiders as strong, fiery and a team to be feared and embodies the \u201csilver and black\u201d spirit.<\/p>\n Followers have been positive about the move on social media. \u201cCongrats and it looks like a great opportunity to mentor a talented rookie QB. God is good,\u201d one said<\/a>. \u201cWelcome to the Silver and Black,\u201d another said<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cCongratulations,\u201d another said, adding<\/a>, \u201cWelcome to the Nation. I have a good feeling that this is going to be one heck of a ride.\u201d One more said, \u201cWelcome to the only Nation, Raider Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n NFL World Reacts to Kirk Cousins News<\/p>\n Even before this news officially broke, NFL experts an analysts were supportive of Cousins going to Las Vegas. In a feature back on March 16, John Breech of CBS Sports called it<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cCousins would obviously prefer to go to a team where he might be able to start, but with those options drying up, the Raiders would make a lot of sense,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cFor one, this would reunite him with Klint Kubiak. The Raiders new head coach spent three seasons (2019-21) in Minnesota with Cousins.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cKubiak was Vikings\u2019 QB coach for two years before being promoted to offensive coordinator, so he worked closely with Cousins in Minnesota.\u201d<\/p>\n So, yes, Cousins and Kubiak previously worked together with the Minnesota Vikings from 2019 to 2021 when Cousins\u2019 was the team\u2019s starting quarterback and Kubiak was the quarterback coach and then then offensive coordinator.
