{"id":849570,"date":"2026-04-02T16:21:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T16:21:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/849570\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T16:21:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T16:21:17","slug":"demeco-ryans-addresses-texans-moving-on-from-joe-mixon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/849570\/","title":{"rendered":"DeMeco Ryans Addresses Texans Moving On From Joe Mixon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6g\">After a long, mysterious saga revolving around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/texans\/onsi\/news\/houston-texans-announce-significant-joe-mixon-injury-update\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Mixon<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/texans\/onsi\/news\/houston-texans-gm-nick-caserio-joe-mixon-update-fuels-lingering-worries\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Texans<\/a>, and his lingering foot injury for nearly the past year, the team officially decided to release the veteran running back last month in an effort to save cap space for this offseason and part ways after just two years.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">It was ultimately an unfortunate ending for the veteran runner that had been brewing in recent months after Mixon had been dealing with an unknown foot injury that Texans general manager Nick Caserio has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/texans\/onsi\/news\/nick-caserio-shares-where-houston-texans-stand-joe-mixon-injury\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previously described as a &#8220;freak&#8221; situation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">It sidelined him for the entire 2025 campaign, and without clarity on what his status held for 2026, Houston opted to release him rolling into next year to save $8 million.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6p\">All in all, it&#8217;s simply part of the business that is the NFL\u2013\u2013 but still doesn&#8217;t make the decision any less difficult for Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6s\">&#8220;Definitely tough,&#8221; Ryans said about cutting Mixon during NFL meetings in Arizona, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AaronWilson_NFL\/status\/2039005004070330714?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">via KPRC2&#8217;s Aaron Wilson<\/a>. &#8220;First and foremost, I think the world of Joe [Mixon], and what he was capable of doing for our team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6v\">&#8220;He&#8217;s an outstanding player. Outstanding energy provider for our team. He knows how to get more than what is blocked for. Very consistent, efficient. So, I&#8217;m excited to work with him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7a\">&#8220;First meeting him, he&#8217;s all football. He&#8217;s serious. He&#8217;s locked in.
