With that window opening up, the team lost a vital member of their offensive line when veteran guard Isaac Seumalo signed with the Arizona Cardinals. Seumalo had a solid 2025 season with Pittsburgh, despite playing through injury. It would appear the team needs to address this position this offseason, however Steelers beat writer Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette mentioned in his weekly chat on Monday that Spencer Anderson is his likely replacement in 2026.

Jeremy Chen / Arizona Cardinals

Former Steelers offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo signs his new contract with the Arizona Cardinals.

While Seumalo’s signing with Arizona appeared to have created another position of need for Pittsburgh in the 2026 offseason, Batko was asked about it and his comments indicate the organization sees Anderson as the next man up. With plenty of draft picks in the possession of the organization, 12 overall to be exact, they could get someone younger at the position. However, it appears even if they would draft an offensive lineman, Anderson’s solid play as a backup has earned him a starting job for the 2026 season.

“I feel like they’re set now, viewing Spencer Anderson in that ‘potential starter’ category while keeping a close eye on this draft class,” Batko said. “And as we sit here today, it may well be the top priority, yes.”

While Batko’s comments may come across as slightly contradicting, it does offer confidence to the theory that the organization drafts someone next month, but they learn behind a guy like Anderson to start their career. Pittsburgh’s offensive line is relatively young and a group in which the front office has done a great job of building around in recent years. With things still unknown about a potential Aaron Rodgers return, the team needs to solidify this group, regardless of who they roll with at quarterback.

Nell Redmond / AP photo

Steelers’ 2023 seventh-rounder Spencer Anderson is just one of the team’s latest connections to the University of Maryland.

With Anderson being a seventh-round draft pick out of the University of Maryland, it does mean the team could go after someone in the later rounds to provide depth at offensive line. The line battled through some injuries in 2025, especially with the neck injury to Broderick Jones, but Dylan Cook filled in at the position nicely in Jones’ absence. With the 12 overall picks, including three third-round picks this year, the team definitely has the flexibility to hold off on going after an offensive lineman in the first couple of rounds.

Steelers Are Seriously Retooling

General Manager Omar Khan has attacked the 2026 offseason with a great approach. While he has not only signed younger guys this offseason compared to the past, he also has been very proactive in filling out positions of need on the roster. When Team MVP Kenneth Gainwell signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this month, Khan made the move to bring in Rico Dowdle, who is coming off of back-to-back 1,000 yard rushing seasons.

While the offensive line has been mentioned as a position of need, it has also been noted that there are two other positions of need remaining for the Black and Gold that they will target in the draft. The team is believed to be working to get another wide receiver to round out their WR room and also possibly look at drafting a safety. This indicates that Anderson may be viewed as a potential starter as Batko stated, but they could get a depth guy as the draft unfolds in round three and beyond.

George Gojkovich / Getty Images

Steelers General Manager Omar Khan looks on from sidelines before 2013 NFL preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Anderson, who is just a 25-year-old and set to turn 26 in June, has primarily served as a top backup. Now it appears the former seventh-round pick has the chance to officially make a name for himself as a starter in the NFL with Pittsburgh. Anderson also fits the profile of what the team has at the position, which is youth.

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have some holes to fill heading into the 2026 regular season, following some moves already…

[2055
4955,1586,390,14408,465,20267,198,7,2394,9314,14451,6,1256,520,12744,57,2360,7152,20987,426,2395,250,5284
0":"post-849646","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-pittsburgh-steelers","8":"tag-2026-nfl-draft","9":"tag-aaron-rodgers","10":"tag-arizona-cardinals","11":"tag-brian-batko","12":"tag-broderick-jones","13":"tag-dylan-cook","14":"tag-featured","15":"tag-football","16":"tag-forum","17":"tag-isaac-seumalo","18":"tag-kenneth-gainwell","19":"tag-nfl","20":"tag-omar-khan","21":"tag-pittsburgh","22":"tag-pittsburgh-post-gazette","23":"tag-pittsburgh-steelers","24":"tag-pittsburghsteelers","25":"tag-rico-dowdle","26":"tag-spencer-anderson","27":"tag-steelers","28":"tag-steelers-news","29":"tag-tampa-bay-buccaneers","30":"tag-university-of-maryland
["GET
