The roster looks in better shape overall after general manager Adam Peters’ aggressive approach, but some additional tweaks are needed to improve their bounce-back chances in 2026.

One of the biggest concerns stems from the decision to release starting center Tyler Biadasz. There has been some mixed messaging from Peters and head coach Dan Quinn after the contentious choice, but moving forward with Nick Allegretti and Julian Good-Jones in a competition isn’t exactly inspiring much optimism among fans.

The Commanders could add another veteran at some stage. They could identify a college prospect via the draft and develop them. However, a new report lends weight to another possibility that brings arguably more intrigue.

Commanders contemplating giving Brandon Coleman a shot at the starting center role

According to David Harrison of WUSA9, who spoke to Quinn at the annual league meeting, there is also a potential for Brandon Coleman to get a crack at the center position when on-field preparations for the new season begin. And it’s not the first time that the coach has dropped hints about this scenario.

Coleman moved around the offensive line last year after the Commanders traded for five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil. He was benched after two games at left guard, but reports suggested the 2024 third-round pick wasn’t at full health. He got back into the mix down the stretch, performing relatively well under difficult circumstances.

Chris Paul re-signed, so four of the five starting offensive line spots are filled. If Coleman isn’t satisfied with being a swing tackle or versatile depth option, he would no doubt embrace the opportunity to stake a claim for the center role.

Quinn revealed during the 2025 season that Coleman had taken some snaps at center in practice. The fact that the TCU product might be in line for more work suggests that things went well.

Allegretti is the favorite right now, especially with his early extension. Good-Jones seems unlikely, but Coleman could be the wildcard. This is probably dependent on whether any additional center reinforcements arrive. Even so, it’s a fascinating option for fans to potentially keep a close eye on as things unfold.

The Commanders never lost faith in Colemian, even when things looked especially bleak from the outside. Quinn wouldn’t have mentioned this potential position switch for nothing, so a situation could emerge where the coaching staff gives him an extended look as the offensive line’s anchor.

That doesn’t guarantee anything, but it shows that all hope might not be lost for Coleman after all.

There is one cloud hanging over the Washington Commanders after an eventful offseason so far.
