{"id":849800,"date":"2026-04-02T18:44:23","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T18:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/849800\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T18:44:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T18:44:23","slug":"7-things-we-learned-from-the-texans-at-nfl-owners-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/849800\/","title":{"rendered":"7 Things We Learned From the Texans at NFL Owners Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6g\">The annual NFL owners\u2019 meeting has officially wrapped up this year&#8217;s session in Arizona, where each of the 32 teams and their top decision-makers gathered to discuss a variety of topics encircling the league, also giving reporters a chance to speak to coaches and front office members about some of their recent offseason work.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">For the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/texans\/onsi\/news\/houston-texans-tank-dell-backs-cj-stroud-after-playoff-collapse\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Texans<\/a>, it was a chance for head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/texans\/onsi\/news\/houston-texans-demeco-ryans-addresses-jimmie-ward-situation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DeMeco Ryans<\/a> and a few other top decision-makers to talk about varying roster changes, and also a peek at what&#8217;s to come for the team moving forward now that the bulk of free agency wrapped up earlier last month.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">Let&#8217;s dive into seven tidbits we learned from the Texans&#8217; time at the Arizona Biltmore:<\/p>\n<p>Confidence in C.J. Stroud Remains High<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/01kn7nz4swh8cdr3pv6a.jpg\" alt=\"Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is the Texans&#8217; franchise quarterback, and the confidence has yet to shift one bit within Houston&#8217;s staff and front office.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"76\">&#8220;The support hasn&#8217;t wavered from me to C.J.,&#8221; DeMeco Ryans said, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AaronWilson_NFL\/status\/2039745976483676474?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">via Aaron Wilson of KPRC2<\/a>, &#8220;I see a guy who&#8217;s dialed in to the offseason, really working&#8230; He&#8217;s in full grind mode right now. I&#8217;m excited to see what comes from the work that he&#8217;s putting in. He&#8217;s only going to be better.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"79\">While Ryans&#8217; belief remains strong, the stakes are certainly higher than ever for Stroud this season. Vasquez-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7q\">After the Texans&#8217; turbulent season on the offensive end, there were bound to be coaching changes on that side of the ball heading into this offseason; the biggest of which was the move from Jerrod Johnson as quarterbacks coach, to now promoting former senior offensive assistant Jerry Schuplinski to that role.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7t\">But Ryan\u2019s underlined that the decision wasn&#8217;t rooted in a primary focus of removing Johnson&#8217;s voice from the room. He actually commended his former quarterbacks coach (who&#8217;s now with the Philadelphia Eagles&#8217; staff) pretty well. Instead, it&#8217;s all in an effort to try and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/texans\/onsi\/news\/demeco-ryans-opens-up-on-texans-decision-change-qbs-coach\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">get the most out of C.J. Stroud<\/a> in a pivotal fourth season.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7w\">\u201cFor me, it\u2019s \u2018How can we help C.J. the best?&#8221; Ryans said, via<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/sports\/texans\/article\/jerrod-johnson-demeco-ryans-cj-stroud-22161664.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan M. Alexander of\u00a0The Houston Chronicle<\/a>. \u201cMaybe it\u2019s a change of voice. Who is leading that room? Who is really giving him that information? Who is coaching him up? Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images | Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-20\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"90\">DeMeco Ryans might&#8217;ve showed his hand a bit when it came to expressing expectations for new running back addition David Montgomery, crediting him as a guy who can come in and really shoulder the load as the main ballcarrier in the backfield.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-21\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"93\">&#8220;David is a consistent runner,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/texans\/onsi\/news\/demeco-ryans-addresses-houston-texans-moving-from-joe-mixon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryans said<\/a>. &#8220;He knows how to get more than what is blocked for. Very consistent, efficient. So, I&#8217;m excited to work with him&#8230; He&#8217;s serious. He&#8217;s locked in. He&#8217;s all football, and he&#8217;s eager for that opportunity to really be that guy, to really carry the load for us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-22\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"96\">2025 standout Woody Marks won&#8217;t totally disappear from the offense altogether, and will certainly claim a good share of work in the passing game.
