The Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> have made a habit of making so few mistakes when it comes to free agency or big-time contract extensions that they\u2019re now the gold standard in both departments.<\/p>\n The 2026 free agency cycle was a master class in such moves, with the Eagles signing 10 free agents, with only 1 of them receiving anything more than a 1-year contract \u2014 punter Braden Mann<\/a> with a lucrative 4-year, $14 million contract extension<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Eagles may have also made the low-key best free-agent signing in the NFL by signing Super Bowl champion cornerback Riq Woolen<\/a> away from the Seattle Seahawks<\/a> on a 1-year, $15 million contract.<\/p>\n It\u2019s why Pro Football Focus singled out the Eagles<\/a> for some high praise in listing the \u201cMost Favorite and Least Favorite\u201d free-agent signings for all 32 NFL teams and, in an interesting twist, the Eagles got the rarely-seen \u201cN\/A\u201d grade for their least favorite signing \u2026 because there just wasn\u2019t 1 to point out.<\/p>\n \u201cDespite signing some outsiders and re-signing their own players, the Eagles don\u2019t seem to have overpaid for anyone,\u201d PFF\u2019s Zolton Buday wrote.<\/p>\n Riq Woolen Signing Singled Out by ESPN<\/p>\n ESPN\u2019s Seth Walder<\/a> to gave the Eagles an \u201cA\u201d grade for signing Woolen.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThis deal is great for the Eagles because it fills a key need, but also because of the price,\u201d Walder wrote. \u201cWoolen was widely viewed as being among the best outside corners in the class alongside players such as Jaylen Watson<\/a>\u00a0(who is getting a\u00a0three-year deal\u00a0at $17 million per year) and\u00a0Alontae Taylor<\/a> (three years at $60 million).\u201d<\/p>\n Eagles Created NFL\u2019s Elite Secondary Trio<\/p>\n We may not fully understand how incredible it\u2019s going to be to watch the Eagles play defense this season. It\u2019s a year that could end up being defensive coordinator Vic Fangio\u2019s next \u2014 and maybe final \u2014 masterpiece.<\/p>\n Nowhere will that be more pronounced than at cornerback. The Eagles already return 2 NFL All-Pros in outside cornerback\u00a0Quinyon Mitchell<\/a>\u00a0and slot cornerback\u00a0Cooper DeJean<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 both of whom will be eligible for massive contract extensions following the 2026 season.<\/p>\n \u201cOver the past four seasons, among outside corners with at least 500 coverage snaps, do you know who allowed the fewest yards per coverage snap?\u201d Walder wrote. \u201cWoolen, at 0.7, was one spot ahead of new teammate Quinyon Mitchell<\/a> and two spots ahead of 2024 Defensive Player of the Year\u00a0Pat Surtain<\/a>\u00a0II \u2026 Good luck, opposing receivers.\u201d<\/p>\n While Mitchell and DeJean\u00a0are both playing for big money<\/a>, so is Woolen, who could very well land a deal that\u2019s in line with the 3-year, $60 million contract he originally thought he was going to get after winning a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in February.<\/p>\n \u201c(Woolen) is a supremely talented player,\u201d Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said<\/a> after the signing. \u201cDoes he have to be more consistent to hit that at times? For sure. There\u2019s a reason that a supremely talented player was available. He knows that. I think we have some insight into who the person is \u2026We like to get really talented guys that we think are good people that maybe have not had the caliber of year that they\u2019re capable of.
