But, that’s what happens after teams win championships. Their players’ pay rates suddenly go up, and then, decisions have to be made.

Walker the season with a massive 221 carries for 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns, according to NFL research, averaging 4.6 yards per attempt. He also started in all 17 games and helped the Seahawks win the Super Bowl. So, it’s easy to see why he was named Super Bowl LX MVP. So, will the Seattle Seahawks regret this move?

Seattle Seahawks Should Prioritize Running Back Position, NFL Writer Says

The Seattle Seahawks “will regret” not focusing more on the running back position, Ernesto Cova of 12th Man Rising says in a Thursday, April 2, feature about the team’s offseason.

“The Seahawks will probably take a running back in the NFL Draft, but again, it’s not a matter of adding more bodies just for the sake of it,” Cova states in the piece. “This year’s running back prospect has a well-defined prototype, and it’s rather similar to what the Seahawks already have in-house.”

He adds that Seattle “won’t come even close to Jeremiyah Love, and most of the guys who come after him are unlikely to bring anything different to the table.”

So, it’s really a less than ideal situation for the team. Plus, there’s the reality that “there’s no easy way to replace” a star running back like Walker. “And after what he did for them in the playoff run, it’s hard to believe the Seahawks couldn’t have found a way to keep him around for a little longer if they wanted,” he adds.

But, perhaps the Seahawks already think they’re set. In a Wednesday, March 18 feature for ESPN, the publication’s experts discuss the current state of the NFL, including for the Seattle Seahawks.

When it comes to the team’s running back room, they hint at the team already believing they have what they need to be successful next season, without bringing on new blood. In the story, Brady Henderson explains that as Zach Charbonnet recovers from his injury, the Seattle Seahawks think that George Holani, who’s already on the roster, can really step it up in the 2026-27 season for the team and deliver.

“The Seahawks believe George Holani is capable of being the No. 2 running back,” Henderson explains in the story, adding that they “still need to replace Walker’s explosiveness. But don’t discount Holani’s ability to factor into their backfield mix after he performed well in the No. 2 role in the playoffs once Charbonnet went down.”

So, perhaps the Seattle Seahawks have what they need for the running back position in a post-Walker reality. But, perhaps not.

Anne Erickson is an award-winning reporter for Heavy Sports covering the NFL, NBA and college football.
