Rebilas-Imagn Images

Who doesn’t love a good joint practice?

At the NFL’s annual Owners Meetings in Phoenix this week, Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh revealed his plans for the first training camp he runs with his new team. He gave fans plenty of reason to be excited about this August, but shared one savvy rule he has for these practice days.

Titans plan to host Carolina Panthers for joint practice, hope to travel for another

The NFC is the conference who gets a ninth home game this season, which means the AFC gets to host two preseason home games (don’t you just love a 17 game schedule?). Coach Saleh told the media at the coaches breakfast on Tuesday that he requested a joint practice with the Panthers in Week 2 of the preseason.

“I’m a big proponent of joint practices,” Saleh explained. “My hope is that, I think we’re scheduled to have one with Carolina. I don’t know who our (preseason) Week 1 and Week 3 opponents are going to be, I think it’s Week 2. The schedule hasn’t come out yet, but that’s what we asked for.”

This opponent and specific week isn’t written in stone yet, but typically a team request for joint practice that is shared mutually by both clubs is honored. So you can go ahead and pencil this in on your August calendar. Saleh didn’t stop there though, saying “I don’t know who our two other opponents are, but I’ll definitely ask to see if we can get a joint practice with those guys also.”

The NFL historically doesn’t love joint practices held during the first week of the preseason. They have their reasons, between wanting to ease into live action both physically and narratively, as well as limiting travel and logistical problems that need solving. But if Saleh is active about pursuing a joint practice at every available opportunity, I expect the Titans will host the Panthers in Nashville in Week 2 and then travel for a joint practice against their Week 3 opponent.

But there is a wrinkle: as big a proponent of joint practice as Saleh is, he did say his one rule is that he likes to do a single day of them. Plenty of teams travel to do back-to-back days, like the Titans did in Atlanta last summer. But these second days of practice often devolve into a lot of fighting, which Saleh understands having been around the league. This was his stated reason for keeping joints to just “joint”, singular.

Tennessee Titans News

The Titans have plenty of positions to fill in the 2026 NFL draft, but there’s one I’m convinced nobody is giving enough attention. Here’s why Robert Saleh’s latest comments prove it, and how to draft the best fit for the job.

NFL

I spoke with Titans coaches and executives at the annual Owners Meetings this week.
