While speaking at the NFL League Meetings,<\/a> Joe Brady admitted he was looking for players with an edge to help transform the identity of the Buffalo Bills\u2019 defense.<\/p>\n

One of the names expected to skyrocket that transition is new safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who has exhibited a fierce nature throughout his seven-year career. The 28-year-old is a hard-hitting, high-flying, trash-talking son of a gun, which is something the Bills\u2019 defense hasn\u2019t had much of in recent seasons under previous leadership.<\/p>\n

At the very least, Gardner-Johnson should shake things up<\/a>, says NFL analyst Jeffri Chadiha.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a big personality, and it\u2019s hard for some teams to handle that in the locker room,\u201d said Chadiha on\u00a0One Bills Live<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s why he moves around so much. But he does bring an edge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gardner-Johnson has played for five teams over the past six seasons, but he hopes he has found a home in Buffalo.<\/p>\n

Along with the cerebral advantage he is expected to provide, Chadiha lauded Gardner-Johnson for his ability to impact the game more measurably.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a tremendous playmaker,\u201d said the analyst.\u00a0\u201cFirst of all, you go back a couple of years ago when he was playing with the Lions, he had a lot of interceptions. I think everywhere he\u2019s gone, he\u2019s been a difference maker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gardner-Johnson finished the 2023 season with Detroit with just one interception in three games. However, that campaign was sandwiched between two in which the veteran defensive back recorded six interceptions each, both coming during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. He also won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2024, bringing a level of experience<\/a> that many players on Buffalo\u2019s roster don\u2019t currently possess.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the Buffalo Bills, for a long time, for most of the Josh Allen era, have been known as nice guys,\u201d added Chadiha. \u201cAnd I know that even, again in Kansas City, when [Patrick Mahomes] wasn\u2019t playing, the Chiefs were out of the playoffs, they were hoping Josh Allen could get it done. They were rooting for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so I think sometimes you have to have some people that you don\u2019t like. And some people who do make it hard on you.\u00a0\u2026\u00a0So he\u2019s going to bring a lot of attitude to that defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sean McDermott offered a lot as a head coach, but one thing he appeared to hold the team back from was pursuing free agents and prospective draft picks with backgrounds that could be perceived as questionable. Moving forward, under the Bills\u2019 new head coach, it seems an attitude shift is needed, and Gardner-Johnson will be carrying the torch into a new era on defense.\u00a0<\/p>\n
