I like the speed that we added to the team,” said Quinn. “The thing I love the most is the competition that comes with putting a good group together. And so when you look at some of our positions, man, that is going to be a battle. And the thing that comes from that is where everyone lifts up and goes.”

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn Mandatory Credit: Amber Searls-Imagn Images | Amber Searls-Imagn Images

It was evident that the Commanders wanted to get more versatile and faster, and they did just that. The transition from having placeholders to player-makers is evident in Washington, and by adding players with a lot of versatility, the team won’t have one hand tied behind its back when it comes to schemes.

The new philosophy for the Commanders will have a huge psychological impact as well. With faster, more versatile players now on the roster, complacency will be a thing of the past as competition heats up between those who have been there and the new additions.

This, in practice, should immediately raise the performance of every individual on the roster. In turn, this healthy competition should bring elevated play at every position.

By emphasizing speed, versatility, and internal battles, Quinn is telling everyone that the 2026 Commanders will be a team that is defined by high energy and earned opportunities over guaranteed roles with the team.

Tenure is now secondary to performance, and bridging the gap is exactly what the Commanders did through free agency and what they will continue to do through the NFL Draft.

The front office and coaching staff have clearly evolved their way of thinking after learning the hard way what not to do, and now have a clear direction for the type of players they want and how to go about filling out their roster as future offseasons and seasons come into play.

Sign up to our free newsletter and follow us on Facebook and X for the latest news.

There is plenty to like about what the Washington Commanders were able to do thus far in free…

[2069
427,7,6,855,111,2480
0":"post-850623","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-washington-commanders","8":"tag-commanders","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-nfl","11":"tag-washington","12":"tag-washington-commanders","13":"tag-washingtoncommanders
["GET
