Still, if he were to falter, FanSided’s Austen Bundy sees Miami as a destination for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

After an April 1 report from ESPN’s Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler revealed the rising tension within the Eagles’ offense, questions about Hurts’ long-term future with the team began to surface, leading Bundy to suggest the Dolphins as a landing spot in a trade.

“Miami signed Malik Willis to a lucrative three-year, $67.5 million deal this offseason but with the amount of cap space the team is going to have after Tua Tagovailoa’s $99.2 million dead cap charge clears, they can mortgage the team’s future on Hurts’ $31+ million cap hit over the next three seasons,” Bundy wrote in his April 2 article.

“The Dolphins also have draft picks to spare. After acquiring the Denver Broncos’ first-rounder in the Jaylen Waddle trade, Miami could offer both first-rounders this year (Nos. 11 and 30) and even tack on next year’s with no need to select an Arch Manning or Dante Moore. It would just be a shame to see Hurts sent to QB purgatory in any trade.”

Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million extension with Philadelphia in April 2023, with $179.4 million guaranteed and an average of $51 million per year.

Could the Dolphins Make a Move for Kyle Pitts?

While this prediction is wild and possibly unrealistic, another, more likely take emerged recently for Miami regarding Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts. In an April 2 article from Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, he sees the Dolphins as a top landing spot for Pitts if they want to upgrade their pass-catching situation.

“Expect the Dolphins to add multiple receivers in the upcoming draft, though they could also explore the trade market to bring in talent,” Moton wrote.

“Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley had a close-up look at how a dynamic pass-catching tight end can change the complexion of an offense. With the Green Bay Packers, he saw the rise of Tucker Kraft in head coach Matt LaFleur’s system.”

Miami Have Draft Capital to Make Major Trade for Pass-Catcher

Moreover, Moton sees the Dolphins having an extra first-round pick that could allow Miami to make a move for an established player that fits their rebuild timeline.

“In Miami, Hafley needs to help his quarterback, Malik Willis, who also made strides with the Packers over the last two seasons,” Moton added. “Based on the Dolphins’ wide receiver and tight end groups, Pitts would be their go-to target in the passing attack.

“He could post career numbers in an offense built around him. Remember, the Dolphins acquired a first-round pick from the Denver Broncos in the Jaylen Waddle trade.
