Talent decisions are clearly coming fast with ESPN’s takeover of NFL Network complete, but Rapoport appears safe.

The bigger question will be how Rapoport fits into ESPN’s existing roster of NFL reporters, which is led by Adam Schefter. For years, Rapoport and Schefter have competed as the top news-breakers in the sport. While Schefter previously coexisted well with his mentor, Chris Mortensen, and other NFL reporters like Jeremy Fowler and, more recently, Peter Schrager, who have thrived at ESPN alongside Schefter, the dynamic could be different given the existing rivalry between Rapoport and Schefter.

In the short term, ESPN appears ready to keep business as usual on the NFL Network. Many have reported that the Worldwide Leader will treat its new property similarly to how it treats the SEC Network. The conference-affiliated platform airs its own on-site Saturday morning pregame show and game broadcasts.

Rapoport can continue to appear on NFL Network’s draft coverage, for instance, and co-hosts his own news show, The Insiders.

So there figures to be plenty of room for both Schefter and Rapoport to continue in similar roles with plenty of airtime, even under the same corporate umbrella. Some have noticed that Schefter has reshared some of Rapoport’s posts on social media in recent weeks.

At the same time, competing insiders have clashed plenty over the years in other situations. Dianna Russini left ESPN in 2023 and openly lamented the lack of “vision” and “elevation” available to her as an NFL reporter at the company beyond her role at that time. Whispers have followed former NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski related to his influence over the axing of other NBA reporters when he arrived at ESPN in 2017.

Insiders work for years to accrue respect and acclaim within the leagues they cover. It’s safe to say we’ve never seen two insiders at the level of Rapoport and Schefter navigate a partnership before.

Still, if ESPN indeed wants to keep Rapoport, it is a massive vote of confidence for the two to collaborate.

The dominoes continue to fall as ESPN officially takes over NFL Network this month following an equity deal…

[2026
4191,7,5328,126
0":"post-850891","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-football","8":"tag-adam-schefter","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-ian-rapoport","11":"tag-nfl-network
["GET
