{"id":851186,"date":"2026-04-03T12:22:41","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T12:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/851186\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T12:22:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T12:22:41","slug":"bills-get-bad-news-on-rumored-96-million-wr-trade-target","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/851186\/","title":{"rendered":"Bills Get Bad News on Rumored $96 Million WR Trade Target"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Buffalo Bills\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/buffalo-bills\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213278\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Buffalo Bills<\/a> are not only out of the mix for one of the top wide receivers on the trade market, they also appear forced to watch him land with a top division rival.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to pulling off a major trade landing <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/dj-moore\/\" title=\"DJ Moore\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213282\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DJ Moore<\/a> from the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"Chicago Bears\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/chicago-bears\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213277\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Bears<\/a>, the Bills were considered a top landing spot for fellow receiver A.J. Brown. Those rumors fizzled a bit after the Bills acquired Moore, but they were still seen as a dark-horse candidate amid a bid to super-charge the wide receiver room.<\/p>\n<p>But an update from an NFL insider points to the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"New England Patriots\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-england-patriots\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213276\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New England Patriots<\/a> as the destination for Brown, with the deal likely coming together just a few weeks before training camp.<\/p>\n<p>Citing league executives, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7165189\/2026\/04\/02\/nfl-free-agency-2026-afc-execs-best-worst\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Athletic\u2019s Mike Sando<\/a> reported that the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/philadelphia-eagles\/\" title=\"Eagles\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213285\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eagles<\/a> and Patriots are planning to finalize the deal for Brown in June. The executive added that New England\u2019s smaller-scale additions to the receiver room were really just a prelude to Brown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">\u201cExecs expect the Patriots to acquire receiver A.J. Brown from Philadelphia in June, once the salary-cap implications become more tenable for the Eagles,\u201d Sando wrote. \u201cThey disagree over what Romeo Doubs adds at the position on a deal worth $17 million per year, which ranks 27th among receivers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sando went on to cite an executive who shared some criticism of the Patriots for landing Doubs, adding that they are still taking a risk by adding Brown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was not high on Doubs,\u201d the executive said. \u201cThey did not improve on the field from (Stefon) Diggs. Maybe they did off the field from a headache standpoint. It seems just a matter of waiting until June 1 passes for Philly to trade A.J. Brown, who in my opinion is a declining player each of the last three seasons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More Rough News for the Bills<\/p>\n<p>The Bills could see another top-tier receiver heading to an AFC rival. After the Patriots cut ties with Diggs following this season, the former Bills star has been pegged as a top target for the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/kansas-city-chiefs\/\" title=\"Kansas City Chiefs\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213280\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> in their bid to rebound from a 6-11 season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25411914-1-free-agent-still-market-who-can-help-each-nfl-team-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report<\/a> suggested that Diggs could head to Kansas City and become a No. 1 receiver for <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/patrick-mahomes\/\" title=\"Patrick Mahomes\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213284\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Patrick Mahomes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chiefs need to add a wide receiver to a room that currently sports <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/rashee-rice\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Rashee Rice<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/xavier-worthy\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Xavier Worthy<\/a> and not much else,\u201d Davenport wrote. \u201cKansas City has also made something of a habit of bringing in veteran wide receivers who were cast off by other teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While there had been some concerns around Diggs after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2024, Davenport noted that he bounced back strong in 2025. Diggs topped the 1,000-yard mark, while helping second-year quarterback <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/drake-maye\/\" title=\"Drake Maye\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213281\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Drake Maye<\/a> take a significant leap and ultimately bringing the team on a surprise run to the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">\u201cDiggs is also coming off a quietly-solid season with the New England Patriots: 102 targets, 85 receptions, 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.
