While the Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> haven’t made a big ‘splash’ signing since free agency began, their first move was perhaps the best. Before the legal tampering period began, the Bolts moved swiftly to secure their new starting center in Tyler Biadasz. They inked Biadasz to a three year, $30 million deal.<\/p>\n

Many expected the Chargers to be major players for Tyler Linderbaum, arguably the top free agent available this offseason. General manager Joe Hortiz hasn’t shown any willingness to pay top dollar for any free agent in his three seasons at the helm. That was the case when it came to Linderbaum, who received $27 million per year from the rival Las Vegas Raiders.<\/p>\n

While Linderbaum is a quality player, in this case Hortiz may have been justified in his move. The Chargers had more than enough money to make that contract work, but adding Biadasz at a fraction of the price was genius.<\/p>\n

Gilberto Manzano of SI seems to agree, as he listed Biadasz to the Chargers<\/a> as one of the best value signings in free agency.<\/p>\n

Biadasz, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders, allowed 0 quarterback hits and 3 sacks last season. He’ll be a major upgrade over Bradley Bozeman, who announced his retirement earlier in the offseason.<\/p>\n

“Biadasz was the second-best option at center, signing at a much lower rate than the three-year, $81 million deal the Raiders handed Linderbaum,” Manzano wrote. “Maybe it\u2019s a red flag that the Commanders made the decision to cut Biadasz, but he had strong performances last season.\u00a0Now, if the Chargers can find a top guard in the draft, Justin Herbert could finally have a dominant offensive line in 2026, with Biadasz and tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater.”<\/p>\n

Manzano made a good point about the Chargers looking to add a premier guard in the draft. As it stands right now, Biadasz is the only prominent name they’ve added along the interior offensive line. The Chargers signed former first rounder Cole Strange, but he can’t be relied upon solely to fill one of their guard spots.<\/p>\n

Regardless, Biadasz will fortify the middle of their protection and keep Justin Herbert upright more often than not.
