White and safety Jordan Poyer both found their way back to the Bills last season and returned to meaningful roles, but White has had a quiet first month of free agency.

Tre’Davious White Could Return to Bills

After spending the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens, White had a bounce-back campaign with the Bills last year. He started 16 games, making 40 total tackles with one interception and 10 passes defensed.

There hasn’t been much interest in White since then, with no reported meetings with other teams. As SI.com’s Ralph Ventre reported, the Bills showed interest in bringing him back for another year in 2026.

“It was fun to have Tre back this season. We’re still kind of combing through all those things, so I wouldn’t want to forecast yay or nay. I think it’s still early,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane said at the NFL combine in February.

It remains unclear just how much White would fit into the team’s new defensive scheme, Ventre added.

“When it comes to potential returnees, one would think the Bills would have at least some interest in bringing back the 31-year-old White although the interest would have been much stronger had head coach Sean McDermott not been fired,” Ventre wrote.

White would likely not break the bank, Ventre added. Sportrac estimated his market value at $1.2 million, which would allow the Bills to keep him on as a backup to Christian Benford and Maxwell Hairston, Ventre wrote.

It’s not clear whether White would feel rushed to make a decision. The longtime veteran didn’t sign with the Bills until late April last offseason, joining well after the first wave of free agency ended.

The Bills have some other core players still waiting for a call in free agency, including Poyer and cornerback Dane Jackson.

Bills Could Address Defense in NFL Draft

The Bills could make more additions to their defense later this month. ESPN analyst Field Yates predicted that the Bills would trade back in the draft, landing linebacker C.J. Allen from Georgia with the No. 34 overall pick.

“The Bills have a significant need at inside linebacker and still get to address it despite moving back eight spots,” Yates wrote. “Allen is the second-best linebacker in my rankings; he’s a physical player with good range and ability to spot drop into coverage. He added 3.5 sacks in 2025, too.”

NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter also predicted the Bills would address defense with their first-round pick, taking Texas A&M edge rusher Cashius Howell.

“This Bills’ new-look defense could use Howell’s speed off the edge,” Reuter wrote. “Opponents will forget all about his short arms (30 ¼ inches) when he becomes a major pass-rush factor as his rookie campaign progresses.”

Nathan Dougherty is a sports reporter covering the NFL for Heavy.com, with a focus on the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.
