San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Christian Kirk is officially in red and gold after signing with the team in free agency.<\/p>\n

The front office wasted no time bolstering its receiver corps after Kendrick Bourne and Jauan Jennings departed in free agency<\/a>. Instead, the team opted for cheaper replacements, with Kirk joined by future Hall of Famer Mike Evans. <\/p>\n

Evans signed a three-year, $42.4 million contract<\/a> with $16.3 million guaranteed, while Kirk agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with $2.78 million guaranteed.<\/p>\n

Kirk signed an affordable deal and explains what ultimately convinced him to join the City by the Bay despite several other options.<\/p>\n

“Free agency was a little different this year,” shared Kirk on theIn Good Company with Mitch Morse\u00a0podcast<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“I felt like I was in a position to be a little bit more picky on where I wanted to go, at this point in my career. I think it just all depended on being in the right situation. <\/p>\n

“And so, from the get-go, San Fran had interest\u2014there was a lot of interest there\u2014and it excited me just because I played in that division for four years. Shanahan has had that thing rolling for a while.<\/p>\n

“And so, played against all those guys, a lot of respect for that organization. The more I started thinking about it, I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s a great fit.’ And I feel like I fit into that locker room really well, and want to be a part of what they are doing. <\/p>\n

“I had some other options out there. I was just kind of taking my time and just really doing my due diligence.”<\/p>\n

Kirk has started only 10 games and appeared in 21 over the past two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. He recorded 379 and 279 receiving yards in those seasons, respectively \u2014 by far the lowest totals of his career. <\/p>\n

While that is clearly a concern, it does not change the fact that Kirk signed for practically minimal cap space despite previously posting five consecutive 500+ yard seasons.<\/p>\n

That stretch included a 982-yard campaign with the Arizona Cardinals before earning a major payday with the Jaguars in 2022, when he recorded 1,108 yards.<\/p>\n

Statistically, Kirk represents excellent value for the level of involvement you would expect him to receive.
