Brown.

The A.J. Brown saga rolls on and will continue to do so until the Philadelphia Eagles make a final decision on their star wide receiver. In the meantime, the New England Patriots remain the favorites to land him in a trade.

Still, that hasn’t happened yet, and now Patriots insider Greg Bedard has shed some light on why that might be. The package that New England is offering is coming in below what Philadelphia wants for Brown.

“The Eagles have been asking for a first and a second or a first and a third,” Bedard said on NBC Sports Boston. “The Patriots, from my understanding, are looking at a second-round draft compensation.”

What the Eagles are looking for is in line with what most trades for star receivers are going to net. In March, the Miami Dolphins traded Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos for a first-round and a third-round pick, while also exchanging fourth-round picks. So, it would seem like a fair ask by the Eagles, but as another Patriots reporter, Phil Perry, pointed out, with Brown looking for a way out, the Eagles have less leverage.

“They found themselves in a difficult spot where they’re probably going to have to take less because everybody knows he’s not long for Philadelphia,” Perry said. “Not only that, he is 29 years old.”

New England Patriots EVP Eliot Wolf Shared an A.J. Brown

Despite all of that, there doesn’t seem to be another team seriously in contention to land A.J. Brown. That has made the Patriots that much more interesting an option, and when The Athletic asked several anonymous NFL executives, they agreed that Brown is still likely to land in New England.

Most expect the trade to come following June 1st. That timing is important because it would save the Eagles about $7 million against their cap hit.

Brown is coming off a season where he had 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games. That was the third most receptions of his career and the third season in a row with seven receiving touchdowns for Brown. Only Stefon Diggs, who is no longer with the team, had more than 1,000 receiving yards in 2025.

Dan Morrison After graduating from UMass in 2019, Dan Morrison quickly began a career in sports journalism and digital media.
