One signing the Philadelphia Eagles made during the offseason might not get as much attention, but it might be more significant than some believe.<\/p>\n
The Eagles signed tight end Johnny Mundt to a one-year deal<\/a> to compete for a roster spot on the team. At the NFL owners’ meeting this past week, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman provided context on how Mundt’s connection with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion<\/a> benefits the team in more than one way.<\/p>\n “Getting a guy like Johnny who has experience in this kind of offense, and you can see him do some of the point of attack stuff that we’re gonna be asking our players to do,” Roseman said via The Athletic’s Zach Berman<\/a>. “Great character, high-character guy who a bunch of our coaches knew. It’s funny, because Sean (Mannion) plays with some of these guys, so it’s like, \u2018I know him as a teammate.'”<\/p>\n Sounds like Johnny Mundt might get on the Eagles’ 2026 final roster<\/p>\n Mundt is a veteran tight end in the NFL who has played for three teams since going undrafted in 2017. He has a past relationship with Mannion as the two were teammates with the Los Angeles Rams in 2017 and 2018, then again with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n The Eagles’ new tight end is more of an old-school tight end, used primarily as a blocker in the offense. In 114 career games, Mundt has caught 74 passes for 658 yards and four touchdowns.<\/p>\n Philly’s tight end room is as crowded as it has been in a long time with Dallas Goedert leading the group as the starter for the time being. The Eagles also have guys like Grant Calcaterra, Cameron Latu, and Stone Smartt.<\/p>\n
