{"id":852182,"date":"2026-04-03T23:14:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T23:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/852182\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T23:14:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T23:14:19","slug":"a-home-run-edge-rusher-fit-for-seattle-seahawks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/852182\/","title":{"rendered":"A &#8216;home run&#8217; edge rusher fit for Seattle Seahawks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Boye Mafe departing in free agency, DeMarcus Lawrence entering his age-34 season and Uchenna Nwosu heading into his age-30 season, the Seattle Seahawks could very well target an edge rusher in the early rounds of this month\u2019s NFL Draft.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.mynorthwest.com\/nfl\/seattle-seahawks\/daniel-jeremiah-not-concerned-seattle-seahawks-free-agent-losses\/1844514\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Why Daniel Jeremiah isn\u2019t concerned about Seattle Seahawks\u2019 FA losses<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If they go that route, who would be a good fit?<\/p>\n<p>When posed that question on Seattle Sports\u2019 Brock and Salk, NFL Network\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MoveTheSticks\" rel=\"nofollow\">Daniel Jeremiah<\/a> mentioned Oklahoma edge rusher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/prospects\/r-mason-thomas\/32005448-4f33-6441-5d2e-1a238a40421a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">R Mason Thomas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas totaled 15.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles over the past two seasons at Oklahoma, earning second-team All-SEC honors in 2024 and first-team All-SEC honors in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>With a\u00a06-foot-2, 241-pound frame, Thomas is a bit undersized for his position, but Jeremiah said he makes up for that with relentless effort and explosiveness.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremiah ranks Thomas as the No. 9 edge rusher prospect and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/daniel-jeremiah-s-top-50-2026-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-4-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the No. 49 overall prospect<\/a> in this year\u2019s draft class, so he could be a potential first-round or second-round option for Seattle. As the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Seahawks\u2019 first two picks are currently at No. 32 and No. 64 overall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got an extremely explosive get-off,\u201d Jeremiah said. \u201cHe plays with big energy. He\u2019s got active hands. He\u2019s not the biggest guy in the world. He\u2019s 241 pounds, but I thought he played bigger than that, played violent. There\u2019s a touch of tightness in there, but to me, it\u2019s just the effort and the energy and the juice that he brings off the edge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Uncaged \ud83d\ude24 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thomss_r?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">@thomss_r<\/a> | \ud83d\udcfa ABC <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JCh2SjBurw\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/JCh2SjBurw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Oklahoma Football (@OU_Football) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OU_Football\/status\/1969522931068805138?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">September 20, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In particular, Jeremiah thinks Thomas would be a great fit in Seattle, where he wouldn\u2019t have to be the focal point of the Seahawks\u2019 pass rush.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s the absolute home run pick who would fit in that role,\u201d Jeremiah said. \u201cAs the No. 2 rusher on a team, he\u2019s a good player. \u2026 But (he\u2019d be better) when he\u2019s your No. 3 rusher and he\u2019s part of that rotation \u2013 when you\u2019re keeping him fresh and he\u2019s just throwing fastballs the whole time.
