{"id":852361,"date":"2026-04-04T01:06:30","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T01:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/852361\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T01:06:30","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T01:06:30","slug":"eagles-may-be-planning-to-move-on-from-jalen-hurts-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/852361\/","title":{"rendered":"Eagles May Be Planning to Move on From Jalen Hurts: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"780\" height=\"520\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2254072863.jpg\" class=\"attachment-featured-image size-featured-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts\"   decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGetty\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>QB Jalen Hurts may be heading toward a split from the Philadelphia Eagles<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s safe to say things have turned toxic between the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/philadelphia-eagles\/\" title=\"Philadelphia Eagles\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"214170\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> and star quarterback Jalen Hurts.<\/p>\n<p>There was some palpable tension between the two sides last season, and things escalated earlier this week after a bombshell report from ESPN revealed the Eagles aren\u2019t happy with Hurts, according to multiple anonymous team sources.<\/p>\n<p>Philadelphia took a significant step toward trying to remedy at least one of the biggest issues with Hurts \u2014 his tendency to lean conservative with offensive play-calling \u2014 in firing offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and replacing him with Sean Mannion.<\/p>\n<p>But if that doesn\u2019t fix the issue, one <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/\" title=\"NFL\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"214173\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL<\/a> insider believes the Eagles and Hurts could end up parting ways really soon.<\/p>\n<p>Eagles, Hurts Could Be Heading Toward a Divorce<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5748924\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-5748924\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2255760366.jpg\" alt=\"Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts\" width=\"782\" height=\"440\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5748924\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyPhiladelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts<\/p>\n<p>Pro Football Talk\u2019s Mike Florio recently addressed the ESPN report, stating the fact that multiple people allegedly close to the team were so cavalier about throwing Hurts under the bus might be a signal the Eagles are prepping to move on from Hurts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mere fact that the ESPN report exists becomes proof that the Eagles may be on the brink of playing hardball with Hurts,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/curiously-timed-espn-report-peels-back-the-curtain-on-eagles-dysfunction\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florio wrote<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s signed through 2028, and after this season the dead-money charge slips to an eye-popping but manageable $67 million, which could be spread over two years with a post-June 1 transaction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 Wednesday\u2019s article may be a pre-OTA shot across the bow to Hurts that his contract doesn\u2019t translate to lifetime employment, and that if he doesn\u2019t start doing what the Eagles want him to do he may be doing it somewhere else in 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florio\u2019s proposition lines up with what Eagles insider Jeff McLane reported on Friday about Hurts\u2019 future with the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Eagles have no plans to extend Hurts\u2019 contract this offseason, NFL sources said, even though teams with franchise quarterbacks often restructure contracts to create salary cap in return for more guaranteed years,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/eagles\/jeffrey-lurie-jalen-hurts-2026-nfl-season-contract-20260402.html?utm_source=t.co&amp;utm_campaign=edit_social_share_twitter_traffic&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_term=&amp;int_promo=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">McLane reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hurts is under contract through 2028. But his deal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/47648\/jalen-hurts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">has an out after the 2027 season<\/a>, though it does come with a massive $67 million dead cap charge.<\/p>\n<p>While that is an enormous amount of money to pay a player to not play for a franchise, it\u2019s not unheard of for a team to swallow it.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/denver-broncos\/\" title=\"Denver Broncos\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"214172\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denver Broncos<\/a> took on $85 million in dead cap three years ago after releasing quarterback Russell Wilson. They have Tanner McKee waiting in the wings, and several draft analysts have also linked them to quarterbacks like Alabama\u2019s Ty Simpson and Clemson\u2019s Cade Klubnik.<\/p>\n<p>However, recent comments made by owner Jeffrey Lurie paint a different story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love Jalen,\u201d Lurie told reporters on Tuesday. \u201cThere\u2019s no bigger fan of Jalen than me. Clutch gene, absolutely. MVP of the Super Bowl 13 months ago. Should have been MVP the Super Bowl right before that against Kansas City the first time. Exceptional and so dedicated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI spend a lot of time with Jalen, as I do most quarterbacks, and [he\u2019s] incredibly dedicated to the game, to winning and being a huge winner.
