PITTSBURGH MAYOR ON DRAFT<\/p>\n
The 2026 NFL Draft is approaching quickly, and excitement is starting to build for Pittsburgh. Not only do the Steelers have a lot of draft picks,<\/a> but they\u2019re also hosting the event. It was held in Green Bay last year, and the estimated attendance was 600,000 people. Pittsburgh\u2019s draft could be even bigger.<\/p>\n Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O\u2019Conner recently appeared on WTAJ News\u2019 YouTube channel<\/a> and gave some details on the event. He believes this could be the most-attended draft yet. Detroit set the record in 2024 with over 700,000 people in attendance. While Pittsburgh residents show a lot of passion, there are plenty of Steelers fans outside of the city. That\u2019s evident when they take over opposing teams\u2019 stadiums.<\/p>\n CBS Pittsburgh recently did a piece<\/a> on Ohio-resident Jeff McGough, a Steelers fan who has a huge collection of memorabilia. It\u2019s enough to make anyone jealous. He\u2019s a great example of a fan still rooting for the Steelers outside of Pittsburgh. Ohio is home to two of their division rivals, too.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n STEELERS TRAINER WINS AWARD<\/p>\n The Steelers have undergone a lot of change this offseason. Mike Tomlin stepping down was huge, but that also led to almost the entire Steelers coaching staff getting overhauled. However, one member of their organization recently got recognized for her efforts.<\/p>\n Steelers associate athletic trainer Sonia Ruef received the Tim Davey AFC Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year Award, as the team announced.<\/a> That award is given out by the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society, and it\u2019s presented to an athletic trainer in both conferences who has shown great integrity, service and excellence. Ruef has been full-time with the Steelers since 2011, and she\u2019s the first woman to win the award, making it an even bigger accomplishment.<\/p>\n
