As a result, there\u2019s been speculation as to who could fill that role for Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>With the 2026 <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/\" title=\"NFL\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213975\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL<\/a> Draft approaching, the Vikings could take that route to fill that WR3 need. However, they could also go the veteran lane and sign a player who won\u2019t cost them much. <\/p>\n<p>For CBS Sports\u2019 Garrett Podell, he predicts Minnesota will go for a familiar face in Stefon Diggs to fill the wideout role behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, should the veteran wide receiver resolve his legal trouble. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDiggs\u2019 legal trouble is likely why he remains available,\u201d <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nfl\/news\/2026-nfl-free-agency-landing-spots-aaron-rodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Podell wrote in his CBS Sports article published on April 3<\/a>. \u201cHe\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/47919485\/patriots-stefon-diggs-pleads-not-guilty-assault-allegation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">pleaded not guilty<\/a> to felony strangulation and other criminal charges following an alleged assault of his personal chef. Diggs\u2019 attorney, Mitchell Schuster, claims his client is \u2018completely innocent.\u2019\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Diggs\u2019 legal process is resolved, a homecoming to the\u00a0<a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/minnesota-vikings\/\" title=\"Minnesota Vikings\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213974\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minnesota Vikings<\/a>\u00a0makes plenty of sense.\u00a0Jalen Nailor\u00a0departed for the\u00a0Las Vegas Raiders\u00a0in free agency, so there\u2019s an opening at Minnesota\u2019s WR3 spot after 2022\u00a0NFL\u00a0Offensive Player of the Year\u00a0Justin Jefferson\u00a0and former first-round pick\u00a0Jordan Addison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Diggs, who spent last season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-england-patriots\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New England Patriots<\/a>, recorded 365 receptions for 4,623 yards and 30 touchdowns in 70 games during his career with the Vikings, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nfl\/ask\/stefon-diggs-stats-with-vikings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">per StatMuse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Vikings Could Benefit From Adding Stefon Diggs to Be WR3<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Podell believes that Diggs would benefit from being the third option for Minnesota, and giving potential starting QB Kyler Murray three reliable wideout options will provide the Vikings the best opportunity to reach the playoffs in the upcoming 2026 season. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cKevin O\u2019Connell wasn\u2019t the coach in Minnesota when Diggs departed to the\u00a0<a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/buffalo-bills\/\" title=\"Buffalo Bills\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213973\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Buffalo Bills<\/a>\u00a0via a 2020 trade request, and he needs to get Minnesota back to the playoffs in 2026 after a disastrous 2025 with\u00a0J.J. McCarthy\u00a0at quarterback,\u201c Podell wrote. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cProviding\u00a0Kyler Murray\u00a0with three high-caliber wideouts would certainly be helpful toward that cause. Plus, Diggs wouldn\u2019t have to work as hard to get open as he ages playing alongside Jefferson and company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adam Thielen Talks About His Decision to Retire<\/p>\n<p>If the Vikings were to go down this path and bring back Diggs for a second stint, he wouldn\u2019t be the only wide receiver to return to Minnesota for another tenure in the last year. Adam Thielen returned to the Vikings last year for a brief stint before the team chose to cut ties with him.<\/p>\n<p>Thielen has since retired and opened up about what went into his decision to hang up his cleats. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt it in the way that the coaches looked at me and the management looked at me,\u201c\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KFAN1003\/status\/2037520597106774066\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Thielen said during a March 27 appearance on KFAN<\/a>. \u201cWhen I went into year 10, it might have been after year 10, where I was like, \u2018Oh, they don\u2019t look at me as the same player, whether I believed it or maybe proved it or whatever.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s just this age and years that you kind of hit, and it\u2019s like, \u2018All right, we got to figure out a new role for him.\u2018 And they don\u2019t necessarily look at what you\u2019re actually able to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/author\/eddierazo91\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eduardo Razo<\/a> Eduardo Razo is a sports writer for Heavy.com, covering the NFL, MLB, and college football.
