At edge rusher, even before Bryce Huff’s surprise retirement, the 49ers needed help, and badly.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report projected that the 49ers would go out and sign the perfect Pro Bowl pass rusher to pair with Nick Bosa. That perfect free agent still available who’d be such a good fit is Bosa’s brother, Joey Bosa.

49ers projected to sign Joey Bosa to pair with Nick Bosa

“The San Francisco 49ers, who employ Bosa’s brother, Nick, would be a logical landing spot,” Knox writes. “However, general manager John Lynch has suggested signing the elder Bosa may be cost-prohibitive. …The prediction here is that Bosa agrees to an incentive-laden deal to join San Francisco…”

The 49ers don’t have a ton of money to play with, but they could, and should, try to sign Bosa to join the defense alongside his brother.

After putting up a pitiful 20 sacks in 2025, with their leading sack-getter being Huff with four total sacks, the 49ers’ pass rusher room is in dire need of massive help.

Joey Bosa played for the Buffalo Bills last season and recorded five sacks and five tackles for loss (which led the NFL) in a solid year in his first season away from the Los Angeles Chargers.

More: 49ers could be interested in Kayvon Thibodeaux

In his 10-year NFL career, Bosa has 77 sacks, 372 total tackles, 22 forced fumbles, 172 quarterback hits, and 96 tackles for loss.

He’s a five-time Pro Bowler and a former Defensive Rookie of the Year. Reuniting with his brother is a fun storyline, but he brings more than just a good story. He’d be a decent option in the pass-rushing game as well.

While he isn’t the same player he once was, if the older Bosa is willing to take a discount to come play with his brother in San Francisco, then he’s someone the 49ers should have no qualms about adding to the defensive line.

While San Francisco addressed most of their needs, another pass rusher to pair with Bosa is a must. And why not add the other Bosa brother, and field a high-upside edge group with both Bosas playing alongside each other for the first time since they were kids.

More 49ers news:

The San Francisco 49ers have resolved most of their major needs this offseason, with Mike Evans coming to…

[2080
220,7,6,1161,252,2624,2623
0":"post-853885","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-francisco-49ers","8":"tag-49ers","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-nfl","11":"tag-san-francisco","12":"tag-san-francisco-49ers","13":"tag-sanfrancisco","14":"tag-sanfrancisco49ers
["GET
