To say that last season was disappointing for the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> would be a massive understatement. Nick Sirianni’s team failed to defend its crown, and the offense regressed significantly under Kevin Patullo.<\/p>\n

Now, with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion at the helm, an incendiary report <\/a>pointed the finger at Jalen Hurts for some of the team’s shortcomings.<\/p>\n

He didn’t have a strong season and reportedly has a complicated relationship <\/a>with multiple figures in the organization. That’s why, now that he’s entering the final year of guaranteed money in his contract extension, the franchise has let him know that he has to deliver, or they might consider other options<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows this is the last year of his guaranteed money,\u201d an Eagles source told Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. \u201cHe knows the cat\u2019s out on some of his baggage. You\u2019ve got to be able to produce. You can\u2019t be near the bottom of the league in passing two years in a row with the amount of talent that we have. It\u2019s not acceptable. And it\u2019s everybody saying it — from Jeffrey on down. Everybody is on the same page.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hurts will make $51.5 million next season. The Eagles can basically move on from him after the season, and while there’s no indication that they will definitely do so, the writing is already on the wall.<\/p>\n

He hasn’t been consistent enough to justify that steep salary, and the Eagles’ offense, while absolutely stacked with talent, has been a mixed bag with him at the helm.<\/p>\n

Hurts’ demeanor and limitations may have also rubbed some people in the building the wrong way, and the bar is always high for teams with perennial Super Bowl aspirations.<\/p>\n
