We have each gone into different drafts thinking that there was no way that the Dallas Cowboys or any other NFL team would do one thing or another, only to find out that that was their plan all along. It is an adventure that every team chooses for themselves and predicting that adventure is tough business.

Understanding this, it feels like there is something that is pretty impossible for the Cowboys.

This SB Nation mock draft has an insane Cowboys trade

Recently Doug Farrar authored a two-round mock draft for SB Nation and the Cowboys result feels pretty far out there. We all know that saying that means that we are tempting fate. But Farrar had the Cowboys trading up in the first round, climbing all the way into the top three.

You may think that you have heard stranger things because the Cowboys defense was so bad last year and a certain defensive prospect could be worth risking it all. The thing is, Farrar has Dallas trading up to draft Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.

3. Dallas Cowboys (From Arizona Cardinals): Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame

Okay, here’s where it gets good. The Cowboys trade their 12th and 20th overall picks to the Arizona Cardinals for Arizona’s third and 34th picks this year. For all of that, Dallas acquires the best player in this class (in my humble opinion) in Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love. It’s not out of the question for Jerry Jones to pull the trigger on such a deal, given his history of being flexible with his first-round picks, and his general derision of positional value. In this case, Dallas’ offense becomes absolutely ridiculous — perhaps the NFL’s best — and while there’s obviously a metric crapton of work to do on the other side of the ball, I wouldn’t be completely surprised if such a thing actually happened.

Farrar is fair in lauding Jeremiyah Love. Love is indeed one of the best overall prospects in the class. No disagreement there. But why on earth would the Cowboys be moving up to get him? Why would they sacrifice their multiple first-round picks to do so? This doesn’t feel logical with regards to the current Cowboys needs.

Let’s not forget either that Dallas brought Javonte Williams back in one of the first moves that they made this offseason. Last year proved that Williams is more than serviceable to play his role in the offense at large.

The conversation about Love feels more than fair if he somehow slides all the way to 12. At that point, the discussion becomes whether or not the Cowboys should forego positional need and take the all-world talent that fell into their laps.

But trading up? No way.

Things sort of get better later on

The trade that we all disagree with above did yield Dallas the 34th overall pick in Farrar’s mock, so they did have another selection in this particular exercise. Who they came away with sort of softened the proverbial blow. It is Avieon Terrell out of Clemson.

While this is cool and all, it also feels a bit impractical. For most of this offseason the debate has been whether or not Dallas will take Terrell at 20 at worst should he make it there.

What do you think about this mock?
