Andrew Luck’s retirement from the Indianapolis Colts<\/a> remains one of the most shocking sports stories in recent memory.<\/p>\n

In the last week, there’ve been some new discussions about what really happened when Luck decided to leave the NFL while in the middle of his prime.<\/p>\n

Former NFL tight end Eric Ebron essentially suggested that the Colts forced Luck to retire.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndrew then decides that he\u2019s so tired of\u2014he don’t tell nobody this, this is the backstory\u2014he’s so tired of injury, and he doesn\u2019t wanna do his surgery,” Ebron said on his\u00a0On My Soul podcast<\/a>. You know who the man is around there that gets on everybody\u2019s nerves. Big drawers over there behind that desk [Chris Ballard]. He tells Andrew, \u2018You\u2019re either playing this year, or we\u2019re moving on.’ Who the f— would tell Andrew Luck that? Andrew Luck now says, \u2018I\u2019m not gonna be ready. I\u2019m tired of playing with pain. I retire.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Luck obviously heard about it, and he has responded.<\/p>\n

This is Luck’s statement, shared by local TV reporter Mike Chappell<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“Chris and I had a wonderful partnership, especially through my decision to retire, and we remain close. Any notion of internal pressures that influenced my decision are without merit.”<\/p>\n

Clearly, Luck has no reason to lean into any negative narratives right now, so there are no guarantees that that’s the full story.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Ebron has also admitted that he isn’t a fan of Ballard, so he may not be the perfect source here, either.<\/p>\n

It’s a fascinating saga, but it’s clear that Luck isn’t coming back. Besides that, nothing really matters all that much.<\/p>\n
