It appears the Buffalo Bills heard the outside criticism targeting their receiving corps. Early in the offseason, the Bills\u2019 newly promoted president of team operations, Brandon Beane, swung a trade with the Chicago Bears<\/a> for a new starting receiver, sending a second-round pick in exchange for D.J. Moore.<\/p>\n

While the trade did boost Josh Allen<\/a>\u2018s receiving corps, was the trade really worth it? Not according to one anonymous NFL executive.<\/p>\n

Recently, The Athletic<\/a> had a chance to speak to multiple NFL execs, and in doing so one was extremely critical of what the Bills have done this offseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cD.J. Moore was gonna get cut, and they gave up a second-round pick to get him,\u201d one exec said. \u201cThey gave up a second-round pick and $40 million (in guarantees). What is going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet, as Mike Sando explained, the Bills often have trouble recruiting top free agents to Buffalo, even with Allen\u2019s presence. In essence, the Bills may have overpaid just to make sure they got their guy in Moore.<\/p>\n

But is he really the difference maker the Bills need? Moore, 28, has seen his numbers dwindle in recent seasons. In 2023 he posted a career-high 1,364 receiving yards, but those yardage totals dropped to 966 in 2924 and 682 in 2025.<\/p>\n

Obviously, the hope is Moore can return to being a 1,000-yard receiver in Buffalo where he\u2019ll be a focal point in Joe Brady\u2019s passing attack. Yet, even if he doesn\u2019t record the fifth 1,000-yard season of his career, he can still help take attention away from Buffalo\u2019s other playmakers. As long as Allen can rely on him, Moore can be a positive addition to the Bills\u2019 receiver room, but whether he was worth a second-round pick remains to be seen.<\/p>\n
