The Minnesota Vikings<\/a> signed former Steelers CB James Pierre<\/a> from free agency a little less than a month ago.<\/p>\n

The signing made a ton of sense on the surface-level. The Steelers run a similar defense to what Minnesota runs in theory. Additionally, Pierre spent time in Pittsburgh with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores in 2022.<\/p>\n

However, Pierre wasn\u2019t a super-hot name among the possibilities for the Vikings at corner unless you really did your homework. More attention was on the Tariq Woolen\u2019s and Cordale Flott\u2019s of the world.<\/p>\n

Instead, Minnesota looked in the tier or two below, and have a major return-on-investment opportunity in Pierre.<\/p>\n

Tyler Forness of\u00a0AtoZ Sports<\/a> painted a wonderful picture for Vikings fans to comprehend the value of the Pierre signing.<\/p>\n

\u201cA two-year, $8.5 million contract isn\u2019t a lot to have on the salary cap, but the Vikings aren\u2019t exactly flush with salary cap space, meaning they need to be aware of where every dollar goes. NFL insider Aaron Wilson has the contract details<\/a>, and it\u2019s good for the Vikings.<\/p>\n

$2.5 million signing bonus
\n$1.215 million salary in 2026 (guaranteed)
\n$3.565 million salary in 2027
\n$510k in per-game roster bonuses each season
\n$100k workout bonus each year\u201d<\/p>\n

Forness then goes on to give his opinion on the Pierre signing as a whole after giving the details of the contract.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s very palatable for the Vikings. Plus, they will be able to subtract $885k from the salary cap, as that is the smallest contract on the roster. It\u2019s a very good contract for a player who could give the Vikings starting level cornerback play in a nickel defense.<\/p>\n

Overall, this is a slam dunk contract for the Vikings with at most $2 million dead if they want to cut bait after the season is over. Even if they don\u2019t and he struggles at cornerback, Pierre has proven to be a good special teams player.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s likely that the Minnesota Vikings have gotten a gem of this free agency class. Whether or not they will pursue another CB this offseason via free agency or the draft will only be told by time.<\/p>\n

Alex Ballentine of\u00a0Bleacher Report<\/a>\u00a0shared his opinion on what Minnesota\u2019s \u201cdream\u201d draft scenario would entail.<\/p>\n

\u201cInjury concerns push\u00a0Jermod McCoy<\/a>\u00a0to the Vikings at No. 18. Even getting their choice of McNeil-Warren or Thieneman would be great. They need to stock up on secondary talent to take on Caleb Williams, Jared Goff and Jordan Love.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tennessee\u2019s Jermod McCoy is a stud prospect at corner. Even though he missed the entire 2025 season, he is still in conversation for many people\u2019s CB1 in this class. McCoy impressed at Tennessee\u2019s Pro Day with a 4.38 second 40-yard-dash, 38-inch vertical, and 10\u20197\u2033 broad jump.<\/p>\n

McCoy\u2019s fall to 18 would be greatly beneficial for the secondary-needy Minnesota Vikings.<\/p>\n
