Troy Aikman took a veiled shot at the Cowboys when discussing his new role with the Dolphins<\/p>\n
The Dallas Cowboys<\/a> have faced quite a bit of backlash for pretty much every move they have made over the past few months. When you inadvertently tank your season by trading your best player, Micah Parsons<\/a>, right before Week 1 (which is what the Cowboys did last year), that tends to happen.<\/p>\n However, Dallas is also getting called out for the moves it hasn\u2019t made. That includes watching one of their franchise legends, Troy Aikman<\/a>, get hired by the Miami Dolphins<\/a> to work as a special consultant. Many folks are wondering why the Cowboys haven\u2019t had Aikman fill a similar role for them, and he recently took a subtle jab at his longtime team when discussing his gig with the Dolphins.<\/p>\n Troy Aikman Takes Veiled Shot at the Cowboys<\/p>\n ESPN\u2019s Troy Aikman explained to @clarencehilljr<\/a> that the #Dolphins<\/a> hired him this offseason \u201cknowing that I have information they don\u2019t have or can\u2019t get,\u201d leaning on his relationships from all the games he\u2019s called and the people he interacts with.<\/p>\n It\u2019s something the #Cowboys<\/a> <\/p>\n Aikman spent his entire 12-year career with the Cowboys, leading them to three Super Bowl championships during his time as the team\u2019s starting quarterback. Since calling it a career, Aikman has enjoyed a prolific second act as one of the NFL\u2019s top color commentators, making him one of the most respected figures across the league.<\/p>\n As the Dolphins embarked on their search for a new general manager, it was revealed that Aikman would be working as a special consultant for them during this process. With the team even deciding to hire Jon-Eric Sullivan, it was revealed that Aikman would continue serving as a consultant for Miami moving forward.<\/p>\n The fact that the Dolphins, and not Aikman\u2019s longtime team, the Cowboys, opted to hire him was viewed as a surprise to fans. In some regards, it seems like Aikman is also surprised that, after all his years working as a broadcaster, he\u2019s never been asked for help by Dallas, and he recently took aim at his former team<\/a> when discussing his newest role with Miami.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the Dolphins were wise in understanding my relationships around the league and knowing that I have information that they don\u2019t have or can\u2019t get,\u201d Aikman said on \u201cThe DLLS Cowboys Podcast.\u201d \u201cI think they were smart in taking advantage of that, whether it was through me or somebody else. The Cowboys have never elected to do that, at least with me \u2026 I don\u2019t feel there\u2019s a conflict, but I will say I\u2019m pulling for the Dolphins.\u201d<\/p>\n Should the Cowboys Have Enlisted Troy Aikman\u2019s Help? Aikman certainly seems to have been willing to help his former team out, but the offer never came across the table for him. The Dolphins opted to put Aikman and his vast network to use, and the early results this offseason have been encouraging.<\/p>\n Aikman isn\u2019t afraid to be critical of anybody in the NFL<\/a>, so it shouldn\u2019t come as much of a surprise that he was vocal in expressing his feelings on Dallas not looking to him for help.
