The Jacksonville Jaguars turned heads when they gave Travon Walker a four-year extension worth $110 million with $77 million guaranteed<\/a>. After all, he’s not a bad player, but he hasn’t been outright dominant, especially if you compare him to fellow pass rusher Aidan Hutchison. Moreover, the first overall pick in 2022 is coming off a season in which he only logged 3.5 sacks. Nevertheless, the Jags didn’t hesitate to pay him because they’re confident he can bounce back and dominate. <\/p>\n

Before Walker dealt with hand and knee injuries in 2025, he had racked up 10 sacks each of the prior two seasons. On top of that, he’s developed into a stud against the run. NFL analysts took notice of that, which is why they’re giving Jacksonville praise for signing him to a contract extension. <\/p>\n

The Jaguars are getting rave reviews for extending Travon Walker<\/p>\n

Mina Kimes of ESPN was among the first NFL analysts to react to the Travon Walker news. She stated that he’s been great opposite Josh Hines-Allen<\/a> and believes his contract will age well. For context, his annual average of $27.5 million ranks 12th among pass rushers. <\/p>\n

Nate Tice of Yahoo! Sports, for his part, argues that Walker is undervalued, pointing out that he’s developed into a quality pocket pusher <\/a>and a plus-plus run defender. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, Leger Douzable of CBS Sports says that Walker deserved to get paid, pointing out that his versatiliy his key to Jacksonville’s success on defense<\/a>. Benjamin Solak of ESPN also went to bat for No. 44, arguing that Aidan Hutchinson comparisons notwithstanding, he was deserving of the extension.<\/p>\n

As you can see, the Jaguars are getting positive reviews after extending Walker, even though he’s not in the same pass-rush echelon as Hutchinson, Myles Garrett, or Micah Parsons.<\/p>\n

But that’s the thing. Precisely because Walker hasn’t been as dominant as Hutchinson, they didn’t give him a premium deal but rather one that reflects his place among pass rushers. <\/p>\n

The Jaguars didn’t want to wait to reward Travon Walker<\/p>\n

By extending Travon Walker now, the Jaguars are avoiding the risk of having to pay him more<\/a> if he breaks out in 2026. Moreover, keeping him around ensures they’ll have continuity in the defensive trenches, as they will no longer have to worry about replacing him if he left next year. <\/p>\n

On top of that, the deal could look like a bargain in 2027 if Walker bounces back or is even better than he was prior to his injury-marred campaign. Now, general manager James Gladstone needs to bolster the interior defensive line<\/a>. If he does, Walker and Josh Hines-Allen should be more productive next season.<\/p>\n

When you add it all up, it’s easy to see why the Jaguars are getting rave reviews for keeping one of their franchise cornerstones at an affordable rate. <\/p>\n
