When the Seattle Seahawks asked nine NFL analysts who they expected the team to take No. 32 overall in the draft, four answered Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell.While his status as the \u201cfavorite\u201d for that selection might be influenced by the echoes of each other in a compounding effect, Terrell\u2019s play style definitely fits the mold of defensive back the Seahawks have loved in the past.Watch this clip of him taking on a pulling guard twice and see if it reminds you of any current players on the team.<\/p>\n
If you saw some Devon Witherspoon in there, I\u2019d agree with you wholeheartedly. The aggression is the best trait both undersized defenders share. They also tick boxes for speed, agility, explosiveness, technique, and coverage ability- but there\u2019s just something about a smaller player embodying a heat-seeking missile that makes you love football, and it\u2019s become especially important to the identity of \u201cbeing a Seahawk\u201d.Last month, I wrote about why I think Terrell would actually make a great Coby Bryant replacement<\/a>, and an awesome candidate to convert to safety (in a day and age in which some of the most important traits a safety can possess are abilities to do a corner\u2019s job). Some might see that as a slight, and others might think it complicates the No. 32 pick\u2019s positional value. Seattle traded up to take Nick Emmanwori No. 35 last year, though, and Mike Macdonald\u2019s first-ever draft pick in a true position of influence netted the Baltimore Ravens Kyle Hamilton in the middle of the first round in 2022, who changed their defense- and the NFL\u2019s style- for years to come. If anyone prefers to emphasize the safety position, it\u2019s Macdonald.The earlier clip makes me especially intrigued when looking back on the Super Bowl LX-winning gameplan they put together. It centered around Devon Witherspoon blitzing and creating messes in the box constantly. After seeing Terrell show the ability to do so on tape, that\u2019d be the most exciting part about adding him to this defense and their group of positionless, modern defensive backs.<\/p>\n
