WHY DO THE EAGLES NEED A NEW STADIUM? It was weird hearing Jeff Lurie speak Sunday about starting the process of researching what a new Eagles stadium might look like. The Eagles don\u2019t need a new stadium. This will be the Eagles\u2019 24th year at the Linc, and unlike the 24th year of the Vet \u2013 which was 1994 \u2013 it\u2019s in impeccable shape, beautifully maintained, offering all the amenities fans could ever need. Lurie said, \u201cWe want to maximize fan amenities and attract the best possible environment for Philadelphia.\u201d They already have that. What could they possibly improve on? Sight lines are great, concessions are fine, the concourses are nice and wide, there are elevators and escalators everywhere, parking isn\u2019t ideal but it\u2019s good enough. Are we really going to spend $10 billion just to add a few more suites for rich people and a retractable roof that we don\u2019t need so everything costs more? If this is all about trying to lure a Super Bowl to Philly, who cares? We don\u2019t need a Super Bowl. How does it serve Eagles fans to spend $10 billion to have the Chiefs and Seahawks playing in South Philly? And if the Eagles happen to be in the Super Bowl when it\u2019s in Philly, that\u2019s great, but it won\u2019t make it any easier for Eagles fans to get tickets. Really, I don\u2019t understand any of this. The Linc is just fine.<\/p>\n
Jarvin Driftwood: What do you think the odds are that the Eagles take a QB on Day 2? \u2026 My gut take is that there\u2019s a pretty good chance of that. This isn\u2019t an immediate overreaction to the ESPN story from Jeremy Fowler and Tim McManus this week about Jalen Hurts. It\u2019s more so taking a step back and looking at how the franchise has operated for a couple decades now. The \u201cquarterback factory\u201d bit was eye roll-worthy when it was first uttered, but it\u2019s continued to prove true in the years since.<\/p>\n
There is only one unresolved spot, at wide receiver, and maybe not even one depending on how the A.J. Brown situation plays out. If Brown doesn\u2019t get traded, then that\u2019s one fewer spot the Eagles will need to sort out this season. #Analysis. The offensive starters would pretty much be set, barring any surprises. Of course, if you\u2019re a regular reader you already know that the strong sense here is that Brown will be traded. If indeed he is dealt, DeVonta Smith would become the clear WR1 and focal point of the Eagles\u2019 passing offense, a role that he is more than built for, in my opinion. However, the Eagles would then need a WR2 to fill Smith\u2019s role. Presently, the only player on the Eagles\u2019 roster who could pass for a WR2 is Marquise Brown, who the team signed in free agency this season. That would be a stretch. Marquise Brown is not an ideal WR2 at this stage of his career, and the Eagles would be highly likely to address that spot one of two ways.<\/p>\n

One of the most instinctual athletes at the safety position in some time, his impact will span all three levels \u2014 a downhill enforcer in the run game, a fluid and instinctive coverage defender on the back end, and a matchup weapon in the slot. Under Jones, Downs becomes the flex piece that unlocks everything. Whether rotating into single-high, buzzing into underneath zones, or matching tight ends (which does remain an area for improvement), he elevates the entire unit. Pairing him with a front seven that now includes Odafe Oweh, Leo Chenal, K\u2019Lavon Chaisson, and interior stalwarts like Daron Payne and Javon Kinlasw creates a far more aggressive identity, and his presence also benefits ascending pieces like Trey Amos at corner and Jordan Magee now in year three. Immediate impact: Defensive tone-setter and centerpiece of a multiple-look secondary.<\/p>\n
The off-season, and draft season in particular, is a season of hope around the NFL. But even so, confidence seems to be contagious. New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh has maintained since he was hired that he expects to make the 2026-2027 playoffs. And it seems as though fans have bought into Harbaugh\u2019s confidence and an almost overwhelming majority of fans think the Giants can make the playoffs as well.<\/p>\n
Kirk Cousins has a new home. And will soon surpass one of his new bosses in NFL career earnings. The veteran quarterback agreed to terms on a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, a five-year, $172-million contract. Under the terms of the deal, the contract is in reality a one-year, fully-guaranteed deal for $20 million, that contains a team option for two years at $80 million. Not only does that contract extend Cousins\u2019 mark of guaranteed contracts \u2014 this season will be the 11th fully-guaranteed year over his NFL career \u2014 but this year\u2019s deal means he will pass Tom Brady\u2019s career earnings.<\/p>\n
