The San Francisco 49ers<\/a> are looming large in the Super Bowl race in 2026, with Kyle Shanahan’s team looking like one of the teams to beat.<\/p>\n

With the addition of Mike Evans, plus the return of Nick Bosa, the 49ers will be hoping they aren’t bitten as badly by the injury bug as they were last season.<\/p>\n

Still, with the roster as it is currently constructed, San Francisco has all the tools for a Super Bowl win, if it can stay healthy. But what if they added to Brock Purdy’s arsenal of weapons?<\/p>\n

CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell has named the 49ers as a landing spot for receiver Deebo Samuel.<\/p>\n

“Kyle Shanahan will certainly look to lighten running back Christian McCaffrey’s workload after 413 touches in the regular season,” Podell wrote<\/a>. “That’s the most in a season since Cowboys<\/a> running back DeMarco Murray’s 449 back in 2014. McCaffrey also turns 30-years-old on June 7.<\/p>\n

“Bringing back Samuel to fill in for McCaffrey on some of the checkdowns and screens in Shanahan’s offense could maximize the former’s skill set while preserving the latter for postseason football.”<\/p>\n

A Samuel reunion incoming?<\/p>\n

I’m not entirely sure it is on the cards, although the NFL is a never-say-never league, but this does feel a bit out of left field, doesn’t it?<\/p>\n

Samuel left the 49ers and signed with the Washington Commanders<\/a> last season, posting over 700 receiving yards. So, he is still productive.<\/p>\n

The thought of Deebo back in San Francisco is an interesting thought, but I’m not sure it goes much past that. Granted, it could, and Shanahan could scheme up some good plays for Samuel, but I feel that chapter is closed.<\/p>\n

It would give Purdy another good weapon, though, and in the NFC West arms race, you can never have enough weapons.<\/p>\n
