The Breece Hall saga has hung over the New York Jets franchise this offseason. Instead of risking losing the starting running back in free agency, Jets brass tagged Hall<\/a> right before free agency, preventing him from testing the market.<\/p>\n

Despite the one-year band-aid that is the franchise tag, the question remains whether the team and Hall’s representatives will be able to come to terms on a long-term contract extension before the mid-July deadline.<\/p>\n

Darren Mougey has said they’ll re-engage in negotiations<\/a> after the NFL Draft, but there’s no guarantee a deal gets done.<\/p>\n

Analysts have begun to theorize that the Jets will trade Hall, getting back some value instead of risking losing him next offseason.<\/a> But some of these trade proposals make little to no sense on the New York side of things.<\/p>\n

Jets-Bears trade idea likely wouldn’t be worth losing Breece Hall<\/p>\n

Sports Illustrated’s Ryan Shea proposed a trade<\/a> between the Jets and Chicago Bears that would see New York shipping out Hall for a decent return.<\/p>\n

While D’Andre Swift is a solid player, the real highlight of the return is a third-round pick, something the Jets were searching for at the 2025 trade deadline. The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly came the closest, offering a fourth-round pick.<\/p>\n

The Jets don’t own a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, thanks to the Haason Reddick trade. But would it be worth it to pick one up at the cost of Hall?<\/p>\n

Maybe. Getting Swift back is an okay replacement, but they would be facing the same standoff they are now with Hall. The Bears’ running back is entering the final year of his contract and is likely looking for a new deal.<\/p>\n

If the Jets are going to have a running back essentially on a one-year deal, why wouldn’t they just have Hall? He’s three years younger, and despite not having as big numbers, certainly has more upside than Swift.<\/p>\n

The third-round pick is certainly enticing. It would be New York’s fifth selection in the top 100 picks. But cutting ties with Hall after giving him the tag and not trading him at last year’s deadline just doesn’t make sense.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, the Jets can get something done with their starting running back before that mid-July deadline, and silence all speculation<\/a> about a trade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Breece Hall saga has hung over the New York Jets franchise this offseason.
