In an offseason of change for the Miami Dolphins, the greatest roster pivot comes at quarterback, where the team cut ties with Tua Tagovailoa<\/a> after six seasons and brought in Malik Willis<\/a> in free agency.<\/p>\n

Even after signing Willis to a three-year, $67.5 million contract, with $45 million guaranteed, it\u2019s still not out of the question \u2014 and may even be probable \u2014 that the Dolphins bring in another quarterback in the NFL draft<\/a>, which runs from April 23-25.<\/p>\n

Miami has 11 picks and seven in the first three rounds. The question is, how early could the Dolphins choose to select this unnamed rookie passer who would jump into a position room with Willis and second-year quarterback Quinn Ewers?<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it fell a certain way, I\u2019m going to do what I think is best for the Dolphins,\u201d new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan said last week at the NFL annual meeting in Phoenix about bringing in another quarterback in the draft. \u201cI\u2019m not saying the whole world would understand it, but sometimes you got to do things to secure the long-term vision and health of an organization that maybe don\u2019t make sense to everybody else.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Miami is reportedly bringing in several of this class\u2019 quarterbacks in for pre-draft visits. They\u2019re passers expected to go at different points in the draft: Alabama\u2019s Ty Simpson<\/a> is largely considered the No. 2 player at his position after Indiana\u2019s Fernando Mendoza; the Miami Hurricanes\u2019 Carson Beck is among the next tier, and Arkansas\u2019 Taylen Green can be a Day 3 find with potential.<\/p>\n

Snagging Simpson, unless he falls considerably, would constitute a surprise after dishing out money to acquire Willis.<\/p>\n

Both Sullivan and new coach Jeff Hafley, though, have said they want to instill competition at every position on the team.<\/p>\n

Willis comes to Miami after acknowledging he wasn\u2019t ready to be an NFL starter when the Tennessee Titans selected him in the third round of the 2022 draft out of Liberty. He is now expected to take the reins of the franchise despite having just six starts in his first four seasons.<\/p>\n

As the backup quarterback for the Packers the past two seasons, where both Sullivan and Hafley also came from, he showed some flashes with his athleticism and big arm. He\u2019s still a work in progress in developing the accuracy and consistent decision-making to make him a top-tier passer.<\/p>\n

Ewers started the final three games of the 2025 season when Tagovailoa was benched. He was 55 of 83 for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in those opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo everything in your power, like any other player, to show us that you are the best player at your position,\u201d Hafley said at league meetings was his message to Ewers, \u201cand then our job is to play the best player to win games. That\u2019s exactly what I would say to Quinn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of the draft, the Dolphins also have Cam Miller on the roster. He\u2019s a developmental prospect out of North Dakota State who was signed at the end of the past season before Sullivan and Hafley were hired.<\/p>\n
