The Washington Commanders<\/a> need to make another dynamic move at wide receiver this offseason \u2014 getting a Pro Bowl wide receiver would do the trick.<\/p>\n

In this deal, the Commanders get Thomas in exchange for their 1st round pick (No. 7 overall) in the 2026 NFL<\/a> draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 2025 season was a disaster for the Washington Commanders,\u201d Davenport wrote. \u201cAfter making a surprise run to the NFC Championship Game in 2024, the team imploded \u2026 Now the Commanders are in the midst of a pivotal offseason as Jayden Daniels<\/a> prepares for Year 3 of his professional career. The team has multiple needs on both sides of the ball \u2014 including a wide receiver to pair with Terry McLaurin<\/a> \u2026 If the Jaguars are serious about trading Thomas, Pick No. 7 is about as good as it\u2019s going to get. If the Commanders believe that the 2024 version of Thomas is the \u2018real\u2019 one, it can be argued he\u2019s worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brian Thomas Jr.\u2019s Numbers Plummeted in 2025<\/p>\n

The Jaguars made a surprise run to the AFC South title and the playoffs in 2025 under 1st year head coach Liam Coen \u2014 even more surprising by how little Thomas had to do with their success.<\/p>\n

After putting up 87 receptions for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024 as a rookie and making the Pro Bowl, Thomas had just 48 receptions for 707 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2025. He also missed 3 games due to injuries after playing all 17 games in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just adversity, which gives you a lot to grow from,\u201d Thomas said after the season. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t call it frustrating. I mean, it just gives you something to build off. You know what you\u2019ve got to do and you know what you\u2019ve got to do to sustain (success).\u201d<\/p>\n

Brian Thomas Jr. Showed Frustration Before Season<\/p>\n

The problems for Thomas started during training camp, when he seemed to never get on the same page as quarterback and former No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars selected Thomas in the 1st round (No. 23 overall) of the 2024 NFL draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cThomas looked uncomfortable in training camp,\u201d ESPN\u2019s Michael DiRocco wrote<\/a> on February 22. \u201cIn addition to learning the new offense, he and quarterback Trevor Lawrence had some issues connecting on throws. Thomas twice took off his helmet and slammed it to the ground after an incompletion and he kicked a ball, which bounced off a bystander, after failing to make what would have been a high-difficulty catch in the end zone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whatever is going on with Thomas mentally, his presence with the Commanders would almost certainly be welcomed with open arms.<\/p>\n

After McLaurin, the Commanders don\u2019t really have a viable WR2 option.
