The organization has a dozen picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, including three in the third round. Pittsburgh only believes there’s one passer worthy of a first-round selection, so there’s reason to believe that if it was to choose one, it would be with one of the mid-rounders.

Charles LeClaire / Imagn Images

Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan speaks on the phone while attending a team event.

The Steelers have expressed interest in Miami quarterback Carson Beck. He’ll more than likely be available at the Steelers’ spots in the third round and could be a play for them there.

Beck brought his team to the College Football Playoff Championship Game in the 2025-26 season; however, his team lost the big contest. Beck won two National Championships at Georgia, serving as a backup. The up-and-coming prospect has a glaring reason for being on the Steelers’ radar. Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac explained this in an article for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“The Steelers have little intention of taking a quarterback with their No. 1 pick because they don’t believe there is another first-round quarterback after Mendoza. But one of the reasons they like Miami’s Carson Beck is he has started 43 games, counting his time when he won a national title at Georgia,” Dulac wrote.

The Black and Gold going with an experienced quarterback out of college seems like a possibility with Beck. Beck started for three seasons, including two years in Athens and one at Miami. However, he spent five years total at the college level, allowing him to get a true feel for the game.

Getty Images

Former Miami Hurricanes’ QB Carson Beck looks on during the National Championship game.

In his senior season, Beck threw for 3,813 yards and 30 passing touchdowns. He led the ACC in completion percentage by completing 72.4% of his passes. He looked poised in the CFP and led his team to the biggest stage. He acted as a solid game manager and made some crucial throws down the stretch. This experience makes him an intriguing option for the Steelers.

The organization seems to like quarterbacks who have proven that they can win in college. In the 2025 draft, they selected Howard out of Ohio State. He won a CFP championship there, and a winning culture in college seems to translate well to the pros in the Steelers’ mind. Beck would find himself as the fourth QB on the roster, and some decisions could be made in camp, determining his future.

The Miami product can work through his progressions well and make the right reads. If he can continue to progress and prove he can be a good addition, it would give other Steelers quarterbacks some much-needed competition. Look out for a potential new arm in the Steel City.

Steelers Will Attack QB If Rodgers Hangs Them Up

While their 2025 starter’s decision looms, the Steelers could be looking to add a project quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft. The organization is expecting a decision from Rodgers by the event, but if he retires or is still making up his mind, there’s a good chance that Pittsburgh decides to add another player at the position.

There has been plenty of speculation around which gunslinger it would be, including Beck. However, if the Steelers find someone they’re high on, they more than likely won’t be afraid to get him. Another name that has come up in these speculations is Drew Allar.

Jason Mowry / Getty Images

Former Penn State QB Drew Allar stands with the football.

The Steelers’ stockpile of picks makes it seem like they’re open to going many directions in 2026. Adding a young talent under center is very much in the cards, and it seems like Beck has the front office’s attention.
