The New York Giants<\/a> received surprising news on Monday regarding their 28-year-old defensive star.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter<\/a>, the three-time Pro Bowler has requested a trade from New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II has requested a trade, and he will not be participating in the team’s offseason workout program that begins Tuesday,\u201d Schefter wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cLawrence and the Giants have been through two offseasons attempting to negotiate a contract reflecting his value to the team over the past three years, but there has not been any progress, per sources. Lawrence has two years remaining on his deal and is scheduled to make $20 million this upcoming season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interestingly, USA Today\u2019s Cory Woodroof<\/a> wasted no time naming the Houston Texans<\/a> as an ideal landing spot for the star defender this offseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Texans have one of the NFL’s best defenses, but the team lacks a true game-changer in the middle of the defensive line,\u201d Woodroof wrote. \u201cIf they put Lawrence on a front with Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, watch out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawrence\u2019s 2025-26 campaign wasn\u2019t as spectacular as many expected. However, the Clemson product is only a year removed from a season in which he finished with 44 total tackles, nine sacks, and one forced fumble.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From using brute upper-body strength to showcasing his underrated lateral quickness, Lawrence’s routine attracts double teams and is highly effective as a run stopper and pass rusher.<\/p>\n

Adding Lawrence to an elite Texans defensive front that made life miserable for opposing offenses last season would make Houston nearly unstoppable on that side of the ball.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the end of the day, Lawrence clearly needs a fresh start, and Houston is undoubtedly among the franchises that would help the former first-round pick play to his strengths and be a part of a winning organization.<\/p>\n
