{"id":857433,"date":"2026-04-06T19:29:24","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T19:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/857433\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T19:29:24","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T19:29:24","slug":"lions-predicted-to-make-aggressive-draft-trade-to-help-aidan-hutchinson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/857433\/","title":{"rendered":"Lions Predicted to Make Aggressive Draft Trade to Help Aidan Hutchinson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"780\" height=\"502\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2252302462.jpg\" class=\"attachment-featured-image size-featured-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"Detroit Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson\"   decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGetty\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Detroit Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson<\/p>\n<p>Armed with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitlions.com\/news\/lions-2026-nfl-draft-order-set-all-rounds-all-picks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\"> nine picks in the 2026 NFL draf<\/a>t, the Detroit Lions have the flexibility to make some trades and bounce around the draft board if they want.<\/p>\n<p>The team doesn\u2019t have any picks in the third round, but it does possess multiple picks in Rounds 4, 5 and 6.<\/p>\n<p>Detroit doesn\u2019t have many holes to fill, but offensive tackle, edge-rusher, linebacker, and safety are among the positions the team could address with its handful of picks.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN Predicts Lions Trade Up for Pass-Rush Help<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5886057\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-5886057\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2254210014.jpg\" alt=\"Miami Hurricanes DE Akheem Mesidor\" width=\"782\" height=\"521\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5886057\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyMiami Hurricanes DE Akheem Mesidor<\/p>\n<p>Detroit\u2019s pass-rush last season consisted of Aidan Hutchinson (14.5 sacks), Al-Quadin Muhammad (11 sacks) and a handful of sacks dispersed across several other players.<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad is now in Tampa Bay, and the Lions need to find a complementary edge-rusher opposite Hutchinson to take the pressure off the former No. 2 overall pick.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Bill Barnwell believe that could come in Round 1 of the draft, as he proposed the Lions trade the No. 17 overall pick and No. 50 overall in Round 2 to the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/miami-dolphins\/\" title=\"Miami Dolphins\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"216873\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami Dolphins<\/a> for the No. 11 overall pick and No. 94 overall pick in Round 3. That move would allow the Lions to land one of the draft\u2019s premier edge-rushers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lions are sending two third-round picks to the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/jacksonville-jaguars\/\" title=\"Jaguars\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"216876\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jaguars<\/a> as a result of last year\u2019s trade for Isaac TeSlaa, and that makes me wonder whether moving up is the right idea,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/draft2026\/story\/_\/id\/48373315\/2026-nfl-mock-draft-all-trades-barnwell-deals-32-round-1-picks-players-mccarthy-crosby\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Barnwell wrote<\/a>. \u201cAt the same time, Lions GM Brad Holmes has been aggressive in previous years, and the Lions have obvious needs in their starting lineup at offensive tackle and on the edge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lions might have somebody fall to them at No. 17, but if they\u2019re thinking about adding an edge rusher across from Aidan Hutchinson, moving up might be necessary. The Cowboys, <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/baltimore-ravens\/\" title=\"Ravens\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"216877\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ravens<\/a>, Buccaneers and Jets all draft between Nos. 11 and 18 and would have their eyes on Akheem Mesidor (Miami) and T.J. Parker (Clemson), who both could land in this range.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lions Could Recoup Another Third-Round Pick<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5886058\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-5886058\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2253045455.jpg\" alt=\"Detroit Lions WR Isaac TeSlaa\" width=\"782\" height=\"521\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5886058\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyDetroit Lions WR Isaac TeSlaa<\/p>\n<p>As Barnwell pointed out, the Lions are short two third-round picks because of a draft trade last year that allowed them to move up for talented wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa, who caught 16 passes for 239 yards, and six touchdowns as a rookie.<\/p>\n<p>But he also threw out a way for the team to get one of them back.<\/p>\n<p>Barnwell proposed the Lions trade the No. 17 overall pick in the 2026 draft to the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/philadelphia-eagles\/\" title=\"Philadelphia Eagles\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"216874\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> for the No. 23 overall pick and the No. 98 overall pick in the third round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving traded a pair of third-round picks away in last year\u2019s move for TeSlaa and facing a cap crunch given all of the young talent coming due for extensions, (GM) Brad Holmes should probably be looking at adding more draft capital,\u201d Barnwell added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 Getting back a third-round pick, albeit in the compensatory section of the third round, would be helpful for Holmes as he reimagines his roster. If the Lions are thinking right tackle, they shouldn\u2019t have too much trouble still landing their preferred option.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jumping up six spots would allow the Eagles to fill a hole in their secondary. Safety Reed Blankenship bolted to the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/houston-texans\/\" title=\"Houston Texans\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"216875\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Texans<\/a> in the offseason, and the Eagles could have their sights set on Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/author\/mpatrickg\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Gallagher<\/a> Michael Gallagher is a sports journalist covering the NFL for Heavy.com.
