It began with the team letting veterans like Tre&#8217;Davious White, Jordan Poyer and Cam Lewis, among others, test the free-agent market.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">Then it was the Bills&#8217; turn to be active in free agency. While the team&#8217;s big signing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/bills\/onsi\/free-agency-bradley-chubb-motivational-reason-for-signing-with-bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">may have been edge rusher Bradley Chubb<\/a>, Buffalo added a pair of high-pedigree safeties to fill the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/bills\/onsi\/free-agency-bills-must-find-running-mate-for-young-safety-after-breakout-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">void at the position across from Cole Bishop<\/a> in 2026.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">Still, Buffalo could use long-term options at safety to help them defend against the AFC&#8217;s top quarterbacks, like Patrick Mahomes and Drake Maye, in the coming years. Gardner-Johnson in free agency. That&#8217;s definitely enough to give them enough at the position alongside Cole Bishop and Damar Hamlin this season,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25411227-1-surprising-need-each-nfl-team-could-address-2026-nfl-draft\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bleacher Report&#8217;s Alex Ballentine wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"76\">However, all three were signed to one-year contracts. As a result, Hamlin, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/bills\/onsi\/transactions-why-bills-re-signed-damar-hamlin-after-adding-two-starting-safeties\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">started 30 games<\/a> for the Bills, Gardner-Johnson, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/bills\/onsi\/free-agency-retired-nfl-linebacker-lauds-buffalo-bills-new-enforcer-on-defense\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">infectious personality highlights a culture change<\/a> in the locker room, and Stone, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/bills\/onsi\/geno-stone-why-1-4-million-safety-will-break-out-with-buffalo-bills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">intercepted 13 passes over the past three seasons<\/a>, need a backup plan behind them that will extend into 2026 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"79\">Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/bills\/onsi\/buffalo-bills-stunning-roster-moves-reveal-opportunity-jordan-hancock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Buffalo selecting the versatile Jordan Hancock in 2025<\/a>, the Bills could use one of their later draft picks to select a safety to serve as that long-term option, and Ballentine highlighted three prospects who could fit Buffalo&#8217;s situation.<\/p>\n<p>Three prospects Bills could welcome<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/01knhskbvw44j43hhhwr.jpg\" alt=\"A.J. That pick could present an opportunity to select LSU&#8217;s A.J. Haulcy if he is still available.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7t\">The Bills <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/bills\/onsi\/draft-buffalo-bills-list-of-top-30-visits-features-high-flying-lsu-cornerback-aj-haulcy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">hosted a top-30 visit with Haulcy<\/a> in March. The aggressive mindset shows up in multiple phases in his game and contributes to his added impact as a blitzer and a box safety,&#8221; Harms wrote about the Miami product.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-18\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8u\">Whoever joins Buffalo would likely see significant time on special teams, much like Hancock did as a rookie, when he played 42.4% of special teams snaps, the eighth-highest share on the Bills.
