New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh has announced several early roster cuts.<\/p>\n
The New York Giants<\/a> and head coach John Harbaugh announced news of several roster cuts just before the start of offseason workouts and the NFL draft.<\/p>\n NYG team reporter Dan Salomone shared<\/a> the transactions via Big Blue. With the Giants\u2019 social media team reposting Salomone.<\/p>\n The Giants have waived four players: \u201cThe Giants<\/a> have waived four players: WR Da\u2019Quan Felton<\/a>, S Patrick McMorris<\/a>, CB TJ Moore<\/a>, [and] CB Myles Purchase<\/a>,\u201d the post read.<\/p>\n To which The Athletic\u2019s Dan Duggan responded<\/a>: \u201cGiants<\/a> doing some roster pruning before the start of the offseason program. Felton was an undrafted wide receiver last summer. He landed with the practice squad after training camp.<\/p>\n McMorris and Purchase, on the other hand, were veteran pickups in the secondary. The Giants<\/a> made moves to replace all three players this spring.<\/p>\n The headliner here is probably Moore, simply because of his story.<\/p>\n \u201cMoore was the undrafted rookie who fractured his femur in a preseason game last summer,\u201d Duggan reminded<\/a> Giants fans just after the news. He added that it \u201cwas a gruesome injury [and] long recovery process.\u201d<\/p>\n Moore was turning into a bit of a training camp darling before his injury. So, the news was disappointing at the time.<\/p>\n The injury occurred during a preseason game against the New England Patriots<\/a>. Moore has not taken the football field since, and it\u2019s unclear when he\u2019ll make his NFL return.<\/p>\n Giants Continue Roster Transformation Under John Harbaugh in Pre-NFL Draft News<\/p>\n This is just the latest bit of roster deconstruction from Harbaugh. The new Giants head coach has actually been relatively tempered with his moves.<\/p>\n Most times, when a new regime takes over in the NFL, a major overhaul ensues. But that hasn\u2019t been the case with the G-Men.<\/p>\n Perhaps that\u2019s because general manager Joe Schoen is still with the organization. Although when Harbaugh wants someone gone, their walking papers are not far behind.<\/p>\n This has been more of a slow and methodical roster transformation under Harbaugh, rather than the more typical stick of dynamite method.<\/p>\n Harbaugh has brought in former Baltimore Ravens<\/a> to help set the tone, like fullback Patrick Ricard<\/a>, punter Jordan Stout<\/a>, defensive back Ar\u2019Darius Washington<\/a>, and new star tight end Isaiah Likely<\/a>.<\/p>\n He\u2019s also added necessary pieces in free agency<\/a>, with the assistance of Schoen and new front office executive Dawn Aponte<\/a>. But there have been fewer departures than expected.<\/p>\n The Giants shockingly re-signed draft busts like Evan Neal<\/a> and Joshua Ezeudu<\/a>. They also asked a clear cap casualty candidate like veteran running back Devin Singletary<\/a> to take a pay cut.<\/p>\n Harbaugh\u2019s Big Blue has also made public efforts to keep trade candidates like Kayvon Thibodeaux<\/a> and Dexter Lawrence<\/a>, despite steady outside rumors that both could be moved. The latter, Lawrence, even requested a trade<\/a> on April 6.<\/p>\n At the end of the day, this roster is in for major changes over the next few years.
