The only position the New York Jets have yet to make an addition<\/a> at this offseason is wide receiver, creating quite a glaring hole on the roster.<\/p>\n

Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey tried to play coy<\/a> at the league owners’ meetings, saying repeatedly they felt good about the current group. But the fact of the matter is, Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell won’t be enough by themselves in 2026.<\/p>\n

The Jets will add another wide receiver at some point this offseason, likely a veteran signing and a couple of swings in the 2026 NFL Draft, but how early could New York take a swing on a pass catcher?<\/p>\n

Most of the offseason, it’s been assumed the Jets will try to wait until No. 16 to draft a wideout, but a recent suggestion from NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah indicates that a wide receiver could be in play with the No. 2 overall pick.<\/p>\n

Jeremiah joined ESPN’s The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny<\/a> to talk about the upcoming draft and the wide receiver class. He revealed that there’s a chance Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate<\/a> could be the No. 2 pick in the draft, meaning he could be a target for the Jets.<\/p>\n

“I think he’s (Carnell Tate) in play like at No. 2…There’s a lot of Tate supporters out there. There’s a lot of people that need a receiver. If, if look, I’ll say this, if Tate was 205 pounds instead of 192 pounds and he ran 4.42 instead of 4.53, I think there’s a real chance he’s the second pick in the draft.”<\/p>\n

Of the big three wide receiver prospects, Tate is consistently mocked to go the highest among Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson and USC’s Makai Lemon, but it isn’t very common to see the Buckeye go as high as No. 2 overall.<\/p>\n

Would the Jets seriously consider taking Tate that high? They certainly have a need at the position and could use another option alongside Wilson and Mitchell, but the pick seems a little rich for Tate’s talent.<\/p>\n

New York also needs a pass rusher. Maybe not as bad as a consistent WR2, but they still need one. The drop off from players like Arvell Reese and David Bailey to the next tier of pass rushers is not as big a difference as, say, Tate to Lemon or Tyson.<\/a><\/p>\n
