Like most of the top corners in the league, Porter likes to get under the skin of his matchup and talk trash. That’s something he has in common with Jalen Ramsey, and on The Blueprint podcast, Porter talked about how the beef between Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase and Ramsey is real, and how playing next to Ramsey helps fire him up.

“I’m a fan of shit like this. I can’t wait for their next meetup. Because it’s gonna be on that. And I’m gonna be on that. That’s why I like playing with [Ramsey], watching his game. I’m talking smack every time. Tell the wide receiver you trash, gonna have a long day, and knowing that somebody next to me is definitely on that, that just gets me turnt.”

Porter then talked about the receiver he talks trash with the most, which is Cleveland Browns WR Jerry Jeudy.

“Me and Jerry Jeudy be going back at it. That shit be funny, because I like talking, because you really gonna be trying your hardest to get off. And then once that don’t work, now it’s like, what else can you say? Like, I really got you off your game. And I be having him out of his game.”

There wasn’t much doubt that the beef between Ramsey and Chase was real after Chase was suspended for spitting at Ramsey in a game last season. But Porter and Jeudy also have history, as Jeudy was fined for striking Porter in the head during the Week 6 matchup between the Steelers and Browns last season. In that game, Jeudy had five receptions for 43 yards, but he also had three drops on his 13 targets. In the repeat matchup in Week 17, Jeudy had a more respectable five catches for 54 yards.

But there’s little doubt that Porter is capable of getting under Jeudy’s skin, given what went down in their first matchup last season. Porter isn’t just blowing smoke, as he’s shown he’s legitimately capable of shutting Jeudy down and frustrating Cleveland’s No. 1 receiver. Having a defensive back in Ramsey who will have his back and vice versa and join him in the trash talk can help motivate him, but Porter is going to talk regardless. Against Jeudy, it’s clearly a tactic that works.

Porter is entering a contract year in 2026 and is out to prove that he can be a No. 1, shutdown corner. His penchant for trash talk can be another tool he can use to help him beat receivers.

Pittsburgh Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. has ascended into one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL.
