So they should have an idea of Reese’s character and if they are comfortable drafting him.

It appears the Jets are leaning towards drafting Reese at No. 2. He’s arguably the defensive player with the most upside due to his ability to line up both as a pass rusher and an off-ball and inside linebacker.

However, Reese is limited as a pass rusher after registering just seven sacks in three seasons at Ohio State. He even said at the NFL Scouting Combine that he hasn’t “scratched the surface” as a pass rusher.

This is why his teammate Sonny Styles shouldn’t be discounted as a possible option at second overall. It could take time for Reese, who will turn 21 in August, to develop in the NFL. Styles is more of a polished prospect who could continue to get better at the next level.

At Ohio State, Styles, 21, was primarily used as an off-ball linebacker. But at 6-5 and 244 pounds, Styles is also a versatile player who can be a factor in both run and pass plays.

After transitioning from safety to linebacker, Styles became a first-team All-American in 2025 and is widely projected as a top-10 overall pick in this year’s draft. Last season, he finished with 82 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception. This came after Styles helped Ohio State win the national championship in 2024, recording 100 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and six sacks.

Styles told Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show that he has already met with the Jets and will have visits with the Cowboys and Commanders. He has been compared to 49ers All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner and former Panthers linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Famer Luke Kuechly. Some analysts have also said Styles has similarities to Kyle Hamilton of the Ravens because of his experience playing as a safety.

“Playing safety, I think that helped me understand the totality of a defense,” Styles said. “I played free safety, strong safety, [and] nickel my first two years, and being able to see the game from that lens and then now take that and move to linebacker, I think it helped me see the entire picture versus only seeing part of it.”

Styles has been on NFL scouts’ radars for a while, but his stock elevated during the NFL Scouting Combine in February. He ran a 4.46 40-yard dash with a vertical jump of 43.5′”, which was the highest by an off-ball linebacker at the combine since 2003 and the second highest by any linebacker in that span behind Cameron Wake’s 45½-inch jump in 2005, according to ESPN.

What makes Styles such a special player is his effectiveness as an open-field tackler and his impressive closing speed on ballcarries. Despite signing Demario Davis to a two-year, $22 million contract last month, they could use a do-it-all player like Styles, who is truly a defensive unicorn.

Throughout his college career, Styles has lined up as a safety, a nickel back, an off-ball linebacker, and even as a stand-up edge rusher. Just like Reese would be with the Jets, Styles also has the versatility Glenn would love for the multiple defensive formations he plans to use this season.

The Jets need pass-rushing help, and Styles would help with that after registering just 26 sacks, which was the second-fewest in the league. Too often last year, several Jets players missed tackles in the open field, an area in which Styles excelled at with the Buckeyes.

Last season, Jamien Sherwood became the Jets’ captain of their defense after signing a three-year, $45 million contract. But he struggled in pass coverage, registering a Pro Football Focus grade of 46.1, which ranked 66th among 88 linebackers. Sherwood also allowed a high 125.1 passer rating when targeted.

Although Reese is the favorite to be chosen second overall, Styles is a plug-and-play guy who could have more of an impact on a Jets defense that needs an influx of talent.

The biggest question two weeks away from the NFL Draft is who the Jets will select at second…

[2051
2222,7,226,1917,255,2321,2097,6,15,2239
0":"post-859333","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-new-york-jets","8":"tag-arvell-reese","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-jets","11":"tag-new-york","12":"tag-new-york-jets","13":"tag-newyork","14":"tag-newyorkjets","15":"tag-nfl","16":"tag-nfl-draft","17":"tag-sonny-styles
["GET
