However, since Miller has yet to suit up for Big Blue, he may still be a fresh face to some.

The Giants claimed Miller off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last December, just after Week 14. But it was likely more of a forward-thinking addition.

Miller wasn’t activated for any games in 2025 as the Giants closed out their season, but he could get a real shot this time around.

With the Bucs, the 6-foot-2 Miller appeared in 26 games, including the regular season and playoffs combined. He caught 14 of his 24 targets for 162 yards and 3 touchdowns, but what new head coach John Harbaugh will love is his special teams impact.

Miller logged 348 special teams snaps in Tampa Bay. That’s almost as many as he recorded on offense (401 snaps), and there are far fewer special teams snap opportunities in a game.

Giants Signing Ryan Miller Will Compete With Fellow Depth WRs for a Roster Spot This Summer

GettyFormer Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Ryan Miller is re-signing with the New York Giants.

The Giants are building out a deep wide receiver room ahead of the NFL draft, but the group lacks star power behind Malik Nabers.

Assuming he comes back healthy after knee surgery, Nabers is the unquestioned WR1. Then you have a trio of veterans duking it out for the WR2 and WR3 roles.

That tier includes holdover Darius Slayton and newcomers Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin.

Let’s say the Giants keep those four on the roster and no one gets hurt, you then have a large group competing for one to three extra spots. Miller would fall in with that crowd.

Along with Miller, the Giants re-signed Isaiah Hodgins and returner Gunner Olszewski. They also retained 2025 UDFAs Beaux Collins and Dalen Cambre, not to mention Jalin Hyatt is still with the team — for now, at least.

The Giants website also lists WR/returner Xavier Gipson and Courtney Jackson to round out a 12-man positional room before the draft. And the 2026 class is expansive at wide receiver.

Needless to say, if Miller wants to make the team as a depth wideout and core special teamer, he’ll have to beat out players like Hodgins, Collins, Cambre, and Hyatt. Olszewski and Gipson are likely battling for the lead returner job.

Giants’ WR Additions Are Bad News for Jalin Hyatt Ahead of the NFL Draft

As noted above, the Giants have either brought in or re-signed several free-agent wide receivers. That’s bad news for Hyatt, who does not appear to be long for this roster.

The Big Blue WR corps is experienced, and most of these pass-catchers contribute on special teams. Hyatt doesn’t, and it’s hard to see him making it to training camp, let alone Week 1.

Keep in mind, the Giants haven’t even begun adding rookies to the mix, and the former third-round pick is already buried on the depth chart.

As stated above, this is a deep draft class at WR. Even if the Giants don’t spend many picks on the position, they’ll likely sign a few UDFAs afterward.

And if they spend a first- or second-round pick on a new wideout, forget about it.

At the end of the day, Hyatt had three years to prove himself, and managed just 470 receiving yards combined. He appears destined to go down as another glaring draft bust on general manager Joe Schoen’s resume.

Michael Obermuller covers the NFL as an Associate Editor for Heavy Sports, where he began writing in 2021.
