Most knew that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a> were fighting an uphill battle to keep Mike Evans in the NFC South after his willingness to explore his free agency options.<\/p>\n

And thus, the star receiver saw his storied time with the franchise come to an end.<\/p>\n

With most fans understanding the reasons why Evans chose to move from Tampa to the San Francisco 49ers<\/a>, it is still hard to see a franchise great move on. But sometimes that is football, and now the Buccaneers fans will have to see Evans in a different uniform for the first time in his NFL career.<\/p>\n

However, for Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay, he still wishes the Bucs and Evans could have remained together.<\/p>\n

“Mike Evans’ free agency defection marked the end of an era for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,\u201d Kay wrote<\/a>. Rather than attempt to bounce back in 2026 and finish out his storied career in Tampa, Evans took his talents to the Bay Area this offseason.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Regardless of the reasons, it’s a shame that Evans and the Bucs couldn’t work things out. He’s left a strong legacy and will go into the Hall of Fame as a member of the organization, but it would have been ideal to see one of Tampa’s all-time greats remain with the organization for his entire career.”<\/p>\n

Bucs fine without Evans?<\/p>\n

Well, I’d use the word “fine” loosely, as there is no replacing a talent like Evans.<\/p>\n

But for the Buccaneers, if there is a position where they are really deep and could cover the loss of a player like Evans, it is at receiver.<\/p>\n

Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka, Jalen McMillan, and Tez Johnson aren’t a bad quartet, and that will be who Baker Mayfield will be working with in 2026.<\/p>\n

Yes, in an ideal world, Evans would still be a Buc and finish his career as a one-team player, but that hasn’t happened, and now fans will have to watch him play for another team this upcoming season.<\/p>\n
